    Whatever happened to Evil Iggy?

Easily one of the most dreaded late game Moria monsters before The Balrog? But, why wasn't his name carried over to Angband?

From Moria author Robert Koeneke's notes on the game's history ( https://umoria.org/history/ ):

"If anyone managed to win, I immediately found out how, and enhanced the game to make it harder. I once vowed it was unbeatable, and a week later a friend of mine beat it! His character, Iggy, was placed into the game as The Evil Iggy, and immortalized... And of course, I went in and plugged up the trick he used to win..."

Possibly the different developers behind Angband didn't feel comfortable using a character who was a real-life friend of the original Moria author?

He is in oangband and faangband 1.x I believe in vanilla 2.9.3? I'd have to check. Really 3.x is when all the bad things happened. Rodent skeletons were removed and it was all downhill from there. Angband... Ruined...

Back in the moria days ... the trick for the evil iggy was to possess two items of speed ... giving you one extra move over the Evil iggy ... during the game ... the trick was to then hit the iggy ... and move behind a single block so that the iggy couldnt see u to breathe on u. This required u to use stone to mud to create the single block. Then the iggy would move towards you bringing him right next to u. You can then repeat the hit and hide movement until he was killed. I used this trick to find the best items. After a while I took the Iggy Hunter nick name.

I didn't take Iggy out, pretty sure it was before my time. Could have been Ben or rr9 who did it, I'd guess Ben.

I don’t remember evil iggy in any Angband, though I don’t think I got really deep before Ben’s time.

Since I have the source lying around for some reason:

                jl8e@Lesath tmp % tar xzf angband-2.4.fk.tar.gz
                jl8e@Lesath tmp % cd angband/src
                jl8e@Lesath src % grep -i iggy *
                jl8e@Lesath src %

                Nope. No iggy.

Question: Are you Julian Lighton, one of the former vanilla Angband devs by chance?

For values of “dev” that are more like “flake"

                      The Evil Iggy

The evil iggy was present in Moria. I'm still bridging the gap from rogue to moria to angband to now my new angbandos.

A goal I have is to make angbandos configurable enough to play variants by selecting groups of configured settings. A moria configuration group. A rogue configuration group. Etc
