    beefy sling of slaying

I found a sling (on the floor at 200 feet), wielded it, and got that it was magical. I didn't get any sort of good level feeling at the time. I couldn't shoot with it for several hundred turns because I didn't have ammo. When I did, I found out that I had a sling of slaying (+32,+10). I didn't realize slaying could even go that high.

I've only just started played v4, but this would be an extremely potent weapon in earlier angbands, certainly giving a good level feeling on Dlvl 2 and pseudo ID'ing as excellent.

Is this all normal, or are there potential bugs here? Not that I mind, but. . .

Apples to watermelons: the numbers mean something else now, and their range goes much higher. E.g.:

    Code:
    a War Hammer of Fury (4d16) (+343,+326) <+200..>
Dropped by a Lesser Balrog at 4900 feet (level 98).

         +1 attack speed.
         +4 strength.
         Slays undead (x3.00).
         Provides protection from fear.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
         Aggravates creatures nearby.

         Combat info:
Receives 25% of your finesse score, 75% of your prowess score.
         2.8 blows/round.
         8.4x damage multiplier.
Average damage/round: 1006.6 vs. normal creatures, 1246 vs.
         undead.

Welcome to v4. This is all normal - what you found is the equivalent of a sling (+3, +1) in V. Hence the lack of conspicuous feeling etc.

Correct. When finesse and prowess were implemented, we had to choose new values for all the enchantments, since there was no longer a concept of directly getting N extra damage on each blow. So I just multiplied all the bonuses by 10. It seems to be working okay so far.
