    Latest build, starting gear?

    This is not (necessarily) a bug, just an observation, that the RNG is sometimes unkind. In my most recent (and short) game, my starting priest with no-selling option on started with enough money, but none of the town shops had the beginning prayer book in stock, and none had *any* priest-friendly weapon that he could afford.

    This made for a challenging start, to say the least... I'm not advocating for a guaranteed set of usable starting gear, but just thought I'd mention that it does sometimes happen that you don't really get any. :-)

    Part of the problem is that the pricing algorithms still treat pluses on weapons as if they were +to-hit and +to-dam, which makes any non-average weapon hideously expensive.

    It also makes any hard armor really cheap since they all have finesse penalties which the game thinks are gigantic to-hit penalties.

      Thats interesting, I never thought about that. Is the algorithm different in v4?

        For the pricing, as a quick fix, could the combat modifiers just be divided by 10 prior to evaluation?

        Also, enchant to hit and dam should do a bit more - +1 is meaningless with the new system.

        Also noticed that attack speed modifications don't seem to do anything.

          Heh... just downloaded the latest v4 build and when I enter the Weapon Shop, every weapon is priced at 20-30k. There's even a sharp arrow +41 for sale at a meager... 7mil gold lol.

          Seems like a quite different game from v3...

            Sorry folks, I've been slack. I meant to fix this over xmas, and I'm about halfway there, but I've allowed myself a bit of scope creep rather than do a quick fix for prices (the power algorithm needs to be adjusted for the new combat mechanism, and so does the way slays and brands work). Even so I would have finished it before now if I hadn't been given the WoW Battle Chest for xmas ...

            (But my free month ends in a couple of weeks, so I'll get back to it then if not before!)
