    One suggestion… (AKA, YASD)

Might I suggest that some sort of low hitpoint warning be turned on as a default when a new game is started? I neglected to change that setting and accidentally ignored the poison which just killed off my clvl 23 ranger, despite the fact that no monsters were anywhere near him and he had a pack full of healing potions and knowledge of the "cure poison" spell. (Not that I am at all bitter about it. Grrr…)

Oh, and I do have a bug report. On a Mac, using v4-346-g97ef230-dirty, the text narrating game action got garbled when fighting certain uniques. My guess is that it has something to do with unusual characters in their names (ä, ü, that sort of thing).

This was my first experience with v4, BTW. Interesting changes — I'd have to get deeper into the game to have a real opinion, but I didn't hate anything I came across. Finding a good lance and identifying it to find out it was a kobold lance was pretty amusing, though.
Oh you icky things, don't you know you're driving your mamas and papas insane…

Yeah, I agree with you that a default low HP warning would be a good idea. I generally set mine at 50%.

The garbled characters are a known issue, and you're right, they have to do with accented characters. But thanks for the report!

I thought there was a default low hp warning. Did it get taken out at some point?

Apparently it did, as it's been defaulting to 0% for a while (I don't remember it ever not doing so but I didn't play all the vanilla 3.2.x and on versions; I'm pretty sure at least one variant started it at 30% but I can't for the life of me remember which one).

I normally play without warning, but with option, that @ change colour depending on hp. IMHO it works better.

That's a good suggestion, too. Either way would have saved me YASD.

It was kind of funny when it happened, actually. I felt so insulted that he died. Anyway, I've picked up again with a mage I played very briefly one day, but he's not v4. Just picked up an awesome whip of Westernesse, though.
