[announce] Sangband version 1.0.0 Final is out.

(I'm not quite sure where I should put a release announcement - I'll ask Pav)

    Announcement:

Skills-Angband (Sangband) 1.0.0 Final is now available. This latest version is stable and suitable for porting; the next major release is not planned for for some months.

Sangband is currently available for Linux/UNIX, Windows, and IBM. It is also available for Macintosh, but may not be stable on all machines (work continues on this). Other ports, including to hand-held and portable devices, are planned soon.

("what is Sangband" section snipped; see website for this info)

    Website: sangband.runegold.org

    Changelog (most recent versions):

    Support thread: angband.oook.cz/forum/showthread.php?t=24

    Thanks and appreciation:

If it were not for Christer Nyfält's (CJNyfalt) hard work and countless patches, Sangband would 1) be effectively a single-platform game, and 2) not be /nearly/ as clean, polished, stable, reliable, or easy to use correctly. If the game works on your Linux system, it is because he made it work.

Sangband 1.0.0 includes almost all the bugfixes and some of the improvements found in Joshua Middendorf's enhanced Beta 21, plus a number of other Neat Changes suggested or provided directly by him.

Mikko Lehtinen was the most valuable of bug-reporters and offered solutions that just make sense, especially to newbies. He is responsible for the printable list of commonly-used commands, a valuable guide for the perplexed.

Thanks also goes to Alex Power, J.A. Aczel, Dave, Fuma, David Gervais, and Andrew Sidwell.

Without each and every one of these folks, Sangband would be immeasurably the poorer.

Is there a new location to download Sangband from? The links in this post (which are the same as the links on this page) are broken.

Also, anyone know if there's a binary for OSX available?

Thanks for the links. I downloaded and compiled the Middendorf version using the SDL makefile...now how do I get it to run in windowed mode? I'd kinda like to be able to use my second display, not to mention look at other programs while playing the game.

I fond ~/.sangband/config.txt which includes a "Display Mode" value that's set to 0; unfortunately, manually changing it to 1 doesn't toggle to windowed mode like I'd hoped it would.

EDIT: looks like I just had to suffer through chargen in fullscreen mode so I could access the complete set of options. Okay.

EDIT 2: hrmph, can't say as first impressions of the SDL version are all that favorable. Not being able to split off separate windows is bad (though, this being the SDL, I guess I shouldn't be surprised). So is not being able to use the mouse to resize the secondary "windows" inside the primary display.

It also fails to remember some of UI settings and, in windowed mode, crashes regularly. At least on my system. After playing with sdl ui for half an hour I was happy to return to gcu

I speak of latefix3 here. I haven't tried the unofficial beta yet. But I think the main-*.c files are identical in both versions.

Okay, compiled the GCU version. I had to make a change to main-gcu.c: it was #including signal.h in the middle of some code, which made gcc unhappy because it thought I was trying to nest a function in another function. So I just moved the #include to the top of the file.

So now I can run Sangband in a terminal just fine. Still not really like the native OSX versions I'm used to, though...
