FrogComposband - found One Ring on DL 13 - now what?

Coffee break mode if that makes a difference. Demigod-Artemis Ranger, Nature/Trump. Killed Smeagol on DL 13 and he dumped The One Ring. I don't think I've ever actually found The One Ring in any angband-likes.

Is that as game changing as I think? Is it really reasonable to wear despite the *Ancient Foul Curse*, aggravation, etc?

Congrats! The One can be a massive game-changer. But it is also risky, because of the AFC, the aggravation, and the XP drain. In normal mode I would seriously consider not-wearing the One so early, mostly because of the XP drain; but in coffee-break XP gain is accelerated while XP drain isn't. The AFC can definitely be a problem, but I'd still say "put it on" - it has loads and loads of upside, and when else are you going to get this opportunity?

(Also, why do I never get this opportunity???...)

You're right, why wouldn't I wear it - when's the next time I'm going to find The One Ring??

One question - is it coincidence that it was Smeagol who dropped it, or is that something that was hard-coded? If specially hard coded for Smeagol to drop, what are the odds?

Smeagol has a 1 in 666 chance of dropping the One.

Well that was quick. I was resting in Orc Camp after clearing it out when my Ring summoned Herringfolt and a wraith (and one other monster I forget now).

One failed Phase Door later, I'm at -2/234 HP.

That's a heartbreaker... I feel like Deagol.

My next game is going to feel a lot more pedestrian.

Edit: thinking back, it was really, really stupid to use my usual technique of resting for long periods of time after clearing out a level or quest to try and get shop turnover while wearing The One Ring. 10 years from now when I get another One Ring on DL 13, I won't make that mistake!
