    [Announce] Composband 7.1.0 released

It's been a good while since I uploaded a compiled version of composband. When FrogComposband had its first release, there was more that I wanted to keep than revert, but I still wanted to move the game in its own direction, separate from the direction FrogComposband is taking. The influx of new content as well as working on my own ideas gave me a lot to do, and despite significant changes there were always things that I meant to do before a release. I used up some newly available free time making a list of such things and getting round to them, and without further ado I give you the pre-compiled windows version.

Given the awkward genealogy of this result, a full changelog is beyond the scope of this post, but a summary of major features includes:

Removal of pseudo-ID. Items will be tagged average/good/ego/artifact on creation.

Imported a great many rooms from Angband. Dungeons are more interesting. Staircases are easier to find.

Shallow dungeon levels are smaller, the effect disappears at DL30.

Riding and weapons proficiencies have changed to reduce required grinding.

Chaos patron behaviour has been altered - chaos warriors are even more fun, and can choose their patron

Several new types of egos have been added, and jewellery egos have undergo some modification. It is now possible to find randart jewellery as random drops.

As well as a large number of changes to the layout of the world - towns, dungeons, quest sequences, rewards etc and miscellaneous code changes (for those used to frog I will point out that Telmora has a separate quest line at the temple, and Meng Huo is hiding out near Anambar)

The best way to find out more about the variant (besides visiting angband.live) is to download and play.

I get this error message any time I try to look at monster knowledge (besides known monsters) or save macros:

    Code:
    Failed to created temporary file
    .C:\Users\(first 6 letters of username)~1\AppData\Local\Temp\s41g.c
I can save macros just fine but I can't look at wanted monsters or pets because of this.

I used to get that in POS all the time. Once was 'fixed' by a complete deletion and reinstall. It also affected a lot of the other ~ information categories as well.

Well, I tried deleting composband and re-downloading it... didn't help.

Finally got home and had a chance to check it out.
I get the error trying to use (w, u, k, p) in my case it fails to create a file scow.0. The Zero increments with each subsequent error.

Have you tried creating the directory yourself?

I'll look into it; there are a couple of bugs in the game itself too, so I'll try and work in a patch in the next few days

The reported file name doesn't seem to have a valid extension. All the other files in the destination folder are '.tmp' while the error says something else, .0. or .c

Thanks for the Update I truly enjoy where this branch is going. I had popped back over to playing rogue likes after a couple years break (Work Baaaad) and this is the first one that really clicked. So thank you XD

I get the same error (in my case file is s2f0.1 - the .1 increments as described above).
I trigger the error the first time I respond with 'A' to destroy an item. Normally should add item to the pickpref.prf file (which does exist).
                    Directory does exist.

So... I decided to look into a few things to see if I could fix that error I was having.

First: All the relevant code I could find on the github is exactly the same as FrogComPosband, so I don't think it's a coding error?

Second: Running it through WINE on my macbook has no problems.

Third: Trying to run FrogComposBand on my macbook (After running Composband) through WINE causes the same errors.

Only thing I can figure is that there's some sort of file generated that both of these games are trying to use.... somewhere.

Can you test if the old initial release of Composband causes a similar error? If you consistently don't get the error in old Composband but do get it in Frog and new Composband, then I probably broke it for Wine users when I fixed it for normal Windows users.
The Complainer worries about the lack of activity here these days.

Alright, so I tried Composband 7.0.3 on both. On the Windows computer it gives the same error saying file location /tmp/AnXXXXXX

Wine on a Mac works fine.

Also, the file location for frogcomposband on wine is just \(filename)

The "Holy Vengeance" quest is causing an abort.

                              Try downloading this: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Ow...it/q_staff.txt

and copying into your /lib/edit folder over the existing quest file.
