    [ZAngband] Scroll of Acquirement?

    I've been playing ZAngband (2.7.4) for a while now, and finally got a character who is doing decently well. I picked up a Scroll of Acquirement, and went to the scroll store to sell it; I saw that it maxed out the gold cap, so I went outside and read it, receiving a generic, unenchanted dagger for my efforts. What exactly does the scroll of acquirement do? Does it depend on what dungeon level you are on?

    Generally, it gives you an excellent drop. In some versions of the game, it depends on the depth at which you read it. In others, it depends on your maximum depth. Live and learn?
    a chunk of Bronze {These look tastier than they are. !E}
    3 blank Parchments (Vellum) {No french novels please.}

        In latest Z versions there are shortcuts to lower levels in the wilderness. Try going there and read the scroll. Maybe you get a better item

        Edit: Btw, is Zangband still being developed?

          Z's pretty much dead since fall 2004.

            Sadly. I liked Z. I tend to drift away from whats not being developed.

              Same here. There are a few bugs in Z that are just ... nasty. Pity that so many people were working on it, and now nobody anymore. If i could code C(++) i would definately give it a shot.

                That seems odd. Did something happen in Fall '04 that drove the Z developers away?

                  The main developer for a while before that was Steven Fuerst, and he kept on moving to different cities around the world to work at different universities. I think his free time was probably very constrained by his work (he was a research physicist, IIRC).

                  That said, Antimatter (Ross Morgan-Linial) was muttering about doing some work on Z online a few months back. I might prod him about that.
                  takkaria whispers something about options. -more-
