    PCB/CPB Level/Dungeon reward stat gains?

What controls the amount of a stat gained?

An 18 tends to gain +10, rarely +11, to 18/10 the first time, then 20 to 30som more on the second.

    A sub 18 gains a simple +1 it seems. ie. 14 > 15.

However, it seems some classes are different? I am running a melee based Skillmaster and got +10 at each of levels 5, 10 & 15, as well the Warrens.

Everything will max in the long run, but seeing this just got me wondering.

There are noticeable deprecating returns. You can get a +2 sometimes below 18 but the big leaps come when your base is 18/20ish. I don't know the particulars, I'm not unhappy with how this works.

      Thanks for the response.
I wasn't unhappy, just curious at the broad range of randomness.

Going from 18/10 to 18/50 after four increases on one char, while a second char went 18/20 to 18/68 after two. Just made me wonder if certain classes/races favored certain stats when it came to increasing.

I've never looked at it exactly but I do know you'll get bigger jumps if the internal max of a stat is higher.

You get +3 at 18, +1 at any other level. Randomly, you can get an extra +1, but it's rare.

Thanks! So, it will be a long climb pulling that 6 Int out of the cellar...

Unless PCB has changed it in the latest version, this should all be correct:

If your stat is 17 or below, stat increases are +1 with a 25% chance to get a lucky +2 instead.
If your stat is at least 18/00, it increases by an amount proportional to the difference between your current stat and your potential maximum. Specifically, each increase will be a random value between 20% and 35% of that difference.
Your character's potential maximum is also randomized for each stat, and may be as high as 18/130 or as low as 18/70. Drink a potion of self knowledge to find what it is, or get a rough estimate simply by counting how much you get out of stat potions.

A very lucky PC may have 130 max strength and get the max roll (35%), and go right from 18/00 to 18/45 strength on his first stat increase.
A very unlucky PC may have 18/70 max strength and get the min roll, and thus only go from 18/00 to 18/14.
If they were both at 18/60, the high-potential character would get between 14 and 24 points from drinking another potion of strength, while the low-potential character would only get 2 to 3 points since 18/60 is so close to his potential maximum of 18/70.

So your stat gains are affected by your stat potentials (which are randomized for every PC), and they are also affected by how high the stat already is -- lower stats get the best gains.
Different classes do not get different stat increases, but different characters will have different potentials. Your wizard will have different stat increases from your warrior, but your second warrior will also have different stat increases from your first warrior.

                Thanks!

However, the observed behavior seems to show something else at work, at least with the Level Gain, stat increases.
18 almost always goes to 18/10, 18/10 to 18/20. When using the first increase. Rarely it goes up +11, not 10.
The second increase is often in the +20 - 35 range.

Just had a character, CPB Paladin, at L5 his 18/20 went to 18/30, finishing the Warren sent the 18/30 to 18/56. So the second raise would be in the expected range, but the first?

That sounds like you're looking at the stat after race/class/equipment modifiers, not at the base. In this case, the base for that stat was probably 17 (which went up to 18 on the first improvement and then to 18/26 on the second improvement) and you had a +3 modifier.
The Complainer worries about the lack of activity here these days.

                    Ah! Quite possibly. My apologies.
