    PosChengBand 32x32 tileset

Hi all, I've been working on building a tileset for PCB for a while now. I've been using the old tiles from http://rltiles.sourceforge.net/ as a base as well as some of the obsolete tiles from Dungeon Crawl (http://crawl.chaosforge.org/Retired_Artwork)

I've been using "graf-xxx.prf" and "xtra-xxx.prf" as a guide and keeping a spreadsheet as I've had to remap many of the tiles, either as the coordinates were pointing to nowhere on the actual tileset or because they shared a tile with something inappropriate (easy to do in an 8x8 tileset, not so much in 32x32)

I was checking back every once in a while to make sure not too much was changing as new versions came out, which was fine until recently when the rings, rods, amulets etc. stopped being listed in "graf-xxx.prf", so I've no way of knowing now if any new ones have been added, any deleted, or of making sure my coordinates are correct.

Additionally I'm running into problems working out what exactly some tiles are supposed to be. It was much easier with monsters as I followed the descriptions here: http://nikheizen.github.io/pages/mon-info.html (although not always as some have no description at all!) but for some of the utility and map tiles I'm a bit lost.

For a lot of it the 8x8 tileset was a good guide but it's becoming less useful as I go on as I think lots of it is legacy stuff from PCB's predecessors which it isn't actually using anymore.

What I really need is a list of tiles. Can anyone help? Progress so far:

Very, very nice work! I can't help with your questions but love what you have done so far.

Probably because there is now only one base type for every device and jewellery piece.

If I knew what the object names were for those, I would tell you, but you'll probably have to set some tiles up yourself using the in-game selection and then altering graf-xxx.prf to match.

Well that was my plan, hence keeping a spreadsheet, but the data is literally not there in the graf.xxx anymore to alter.

As an example, here is the ring data for v5.0.0:

            K:45:0:0xB5/0x82
(The gold ring in the 7.0.2. list is a monster btw )

All the tile data for the individual rings is gone. This is the same for amulets, wands, staves and rods. The game must still have that data somewhere in the code, but it's no longer in an easily modifiable place. Wizard mode ain't gonna help me here.

So I guess the only way the tileset can be finished now is with the author's help. Does anyone have a dialogue with him? I've tried reaching out to him through private message on here before and got no response.

Chris has some kind of unique living situation. Release notes often include language like "I haven't accessed the internet since the last release a few weeks/months ago, so any bug reports made since then won't be fixed yet".

Private messages probably work fine, but you might have to wait several weeks for a response.

That's what I'm saying, there is only one "ring" "rod" "wand" etc. now, so each of these only need/get a single tile for the entire item type- the flavours are gone. And it does look like that is in an easily modifiable place if I understood your quote correctly.

The plain gold ring is, however, gone. RIP.

Ah gotcha, I wasn't following before. So you're saying if I put the coordinates and descriptions back in then that will override the single tile generic "Ring" and remap the individual rings to their tiles?

No, "ring" as an item only gets a single tile now, no matter what its effects are. So just make one ring tile, one wand tile, one rod tile. etc.

Oh. Sod that then. I didn't draw 50 variants of everything for 49 of them to be thrown away. I'll try getting in touch with Chris.

Out of interest what are the active PCB forks at the moment? If I have no luck with Chris I might at least get graphics working in some of those.

Just posting to say I really appreciate you doing this, and persisting with it.
A good 32x32 tileset would greatly improve my Poschengband playing!

Hey there, this tileset is on hold/cancelled. I never got a response from the PCB author, and something of this scale is impossible to complete without cooperation of the programmer (at least when the info files are as convoluted as they are with this game).

If anyone is programming a PCB variant and would like the tileset adapted to their game I'd be happy to help, I can be contacted at raziel@gmail.com
