    Beta version of PWMAngband 1.1.12 released

    New PWMAngband 1.1.12 beta 1 released!

    This version will port the features from the vanilla Angband 4.1 series. Check readme.txt for the HUGE list of changes...

    Note: this version introduces a completely revamped wilderness, so you'll probably need time to get used to it. In normal mode, your character starts in the town of Hobbiton, located on a map that roughly matches third age Middle Earth. You can travel through the wilderness, find other towns and dungeons on the way. The main dungeon (Angband) is located in the town of Carn Dum north of the starting town. Any server can be changed to "no wilderness" mode by simply changing a parameter in mangband.cfg (DIVING_MODE=1). In that case, any character starts in Carn Dum and has only access to the main dungeon (the game will then look a lot like vanilla Angband).

    Here's a list of changes since the last development release:

    - Add monster themes to dungeons
    - Fix Phial of Undeath having an unwanted activation
    - Fix description of Phial of Undeath
    - Make all dungeon bosses PWMANG_FIXED (guaranteed encounters)
    - Add dungeon flags to generate themed dungeon levels
    - Fix monsters being generated on water or lava
    - Add feature themes to dungeons
    - New terrain: ash (floor tile), nether mist (floor tile, damaging), dark wall (wall), web (passable, diggable), void (floor tile), glass wall (permanent wall), illusion wall (fake wall)
    - Fix stupid crash when firing missiles
    - Fix monster lore incorrectly displaying immunities from status effects
    - Fix display of store entries
    - Fix mismatch with savefile savers/loaders
    - Fix irrecoverable savefile crash when putting items on sale inside a house
    - Display "Surface" instead of "Town" as max depth when the character didn't enter any dungeon yet
    - Fix starting message displaying "Wild" instead of "Town" due to character location not initialized yet

    Why does trying to use the gcu client in any terminal other than cmd.exe complain and say "Redirection is not supported."? The makefiles don't resemble any other band so I can't compile on cygwin.

      No idea. Usually I only use the GCU client with NotEye, and I don't get the message.

        If anyone knows about makefiles and could be of assistance in making the PWM makefiles look anything like those from any other band (for example using GCC instead of BCC and not sticking.exe on executables) I'd be grateful.

          Bugfix release. List of changes:

          - Save all SQUARE_ dungeon flags in savefiles, fixing level feelings
          - Give Otho and Lobelia Sackville-Baggins IM_WATER
          - Know the activation of rings of polymorphing on wield to bypass (unfair) learning by use
          - Don't display pointless "poly race" modifier when inspecting a ring of polymorphing
          - Make PWMANG_FIXED guaranteed encounters only on normal servers (DIVING_MODE=0)
          - Add scroll of Wilderness Mapping which reveals the location of a random wilderness area
          - Fix "Disable Traps, Destroy Doors" not disabling traps
          - Properly fix path_analyse() to avoid blacking out the final grid of the path
          - Allow identifying runes of slay demon/dragon/undead on items having the corresponding "kill" brand

            Toying with new monster pathfinding now. Doesn't work well atm, I'll have to adapt some stuff. Especially monsters stay passive for wraithed players.

              New PWMAngband 1.1.12 beta 3 released!

              New monster pathfinding from V4.1 ported and largely adapted + some stupid bugs fixed. There's also a new command for the '%' key that displays the current time of the day from 1st to 12th hour of the day/night, so that low level players in wilderness dungeons don't recall during the night to be obliterated by way overpowered nighttime monsters. List of changes:

              - New monster pathfinding
              - Fix crash when monster breathing gravity at a player hits another monster on the path
              - New command: '%' (display current time)
              - Allow players in undead form to inscribe/uninscribe carried items
              - Properly fix randart light weights this time

                I'm gonna rework the time bubbles feature a bit, mainly to allow time scaling in town. This will allow me to add a "rest until morning" option to the special resting commands and let players who want to travel in the wilderness to rest faster in towns.

                  New PWMAngband 1.1.12 beta 4 released!

                  Updated time bubble code to allow fast resting in town. Plus two stupid bugs fixed. List of changes:

                  - Fix randart light sources giving no light
                  - Add an option ('m') to rest until morning
                  - Simplify the time bubble code and add time scaling in town
                  - Allow entering arenas again

                      Bugfix version + nerfing of Unbelievers. List of changes:

                      - Base targeting lines off player belief rather than truth
                      - Change waybread to a flat 20 heal
                      - Force at least two rooms in modified levels
                      - Randarts: hit/dam on gloves, reduce amount of cursing
                      - Move angband.css to the manual generation directory, generate PDF and HTML manuals in the root directory
                      - Improvements to pathfinding
                      - Use singular when displaying the activation message for a stack of rods
                      - Make DAMAGE effect identify
                      - Change Identify to Identify Rune
                      - Cap anti-magic and anti-summoning at 90%
                      - Minor changes to randarts (AC, to-hit and to-dam)
                      - Add antimagic field value to the description when inspecting dark swords
                      - Make a list of grids to pick a teleport location from
                      - Don't count timed effects as damage in nonhp_dam()

                        Bugfix version. List of changes:

                        - Fix a buffer overflow
                        - Fix some memory leaks
                        - Stopped reporting "Radius 1 light" for non-lights
                        - Don't report "Cannot be refueled" for unknown lamps
                        - Add copy of Manual.html and Manual.pdf to setup.bat
                        - Add missing drop flags to the Glass Golem
                        - Improve pathfinding for passwall/killwall monsters
                        - Reject curse if flag is already present (conflicting or redundant)
                        - Don't display misc magic flag info from curses (curse description is enough)

                            New PWMAngband 1.1.12 beta 8 released!

                            Bugfix version (mostly). Adds the last changes from Vanilla before the release of 4.1.1. Changes antimagic to a modifier and feather falling to levitation. Full list of changes:

                            - Add struct connector for joining levels (adapted for PWMAngband)
                            - Enforce minimum level sizes for persistent levels (adapted for PWMAngband)
                            - Stop passable rubble protecting monsters from projections
                            - Label fully-known cursed items in stores
                            - Stop monster status info when blind
                            - Clarify curse removal menu
                            - Stop rubble being created on top of monsters/players
                            - Update view correctly after darkening a room
                            - Tweak modified profile unusual room parameter
                            - Always give the player some experience for disarming a trap
                            - Add number of unknown runes to rune knowledge menu
                            - Add list of visited dungeon/town locations to the knowledge screen
                            - Fix experience earned by killing Atlas, the Titan
                            - Allow cursed objects with positive value to be sold in shops

                            - Fix randart dark swords having nonzero initial to-hit and to-dam values
                            - Prevent adding supercharged AC to randart dark swords
                            - Give all randart weapons a chance to get an antimagic field
                            - Remove possible enchantments on ego dark swords
                            - Reduce chance of supercharged AC on weapons
                            - Add mana resistance to randart Crystal DSMs
                            - Allow rerolling random artifacts (Dungeon Master menu)
                            - Fix crash when monster tries to create traps in MvM mode
                            - Ensure that Raise Dead generates an undead monster consistent with the corpse used
                            - NOTEYE upgraded to version 8.4

                              How exactly do you run the game? I fetched Beta version (PWMAngband 1.1.12 beta 8), unzipped it, ran the server (mangband) and then any of the 3 clients but none works.
                              Cowards live a long time, brave ones usually die soon of a glorious death.
