Thanks Chris!
Hey all! I've been playing Angband and it's many variants for 25 years. God that makes me feel old. Games and graphics have changed and improved so much during that time and yet somehow I always find myself returning to Angband. I still haven't beat the game without cheating! Lol! I suck, apparently, but one of these days.... Anyway, I just wanted to say that I'm a big fan of Poschengband! Thanks so much Chris for the hard work and many hours you've undoubtedly put into making it a great variant.Leave a comment:

Is there something special about item generation in Olympus? The drops seem much better at L90 than I see in Angband at L98.Leave a comment:

Chance to hit in melee is affected by your race/class/personality's melee skill (actually that's the only thing melee skill does), and Hasty has "very bad" melee.Originally posted by MochtOn Github it says that hasty personalities have an increased chance to miss, but I was unable to determine anything more than that
Does anyone know what the increased chance to miss is
Hasty personality also gives you a 1% penalty to your spell fail rates, same as Mighty and Patient do.Leave a comment:

In general any enemy that is difficult or annoying to kill is best avoided unless you have something to gain from it (e.g. high level dragons or other monsters with great drops, quest targets and dungeon bosses, dungeon entrance guardians). Wands of teleport other are an infinite resource and non-unique monsters that resist tele only have a chance to resist.Originally posted by MochtI have terrible problems with Archons, with their invulnerability shields and their mana bolts
Are Achons best avoided
This applies to things that make themselves invulnerable, things that can hurt you enough to force you to use !healing (instead of a cheaper or more renewable source of healing), as well as anything with potentially powerful summons. For example, Death and Hell Knights can cast 'summon monsters' and have no loot at all, so even when my character can probably kill them in 3-4 turns I prefer to teleport them away in 1 turn.Leave a comment:

Would someone please remind me how to change my character's name these days?Leave a comment:

Agreed, and to extend -- if I'm at dlvl 5 with only starting gear, kill Bullroarer, and get a nice enchanted dagger or Gloves of Free Action or something, I'm vastly more likely to survive to make it to dlvl 95, where good items are all over the place and my equipment is already about as good as it's going to get.@Mocht-
That's not actually true. A good drop by Bullroarer at dl 5 is hugely valuable in comparison to the stuff you already have. At dl 95, Bullroarer has a level 50 drop, which is good, but not as good as the stuff you are already getting from dl 95 vaults.
It's quality relative to current equipment that matters, not absolute quality.
Even if you're confident in your survival, getting good items early greatly improves the pace of your game. I don't really want to spend any more time in the sub-1000' area than I have to.Leave a comment:

It's okay, there are over 200 uniques. You're going to fight a lot of them.Originally posted by MochtWith monsters dropping better items at deeper dungeon levels, does that mean that Bullroarer will drop better items at depth 95 than he does at depth 5
And if that is so, then to get the best loot, should uniques be avoided for as long as possibleLeave a comment:

1 - yes, definitely read them at deeper levels. The deeper the betterOriginally posted by Mocht(1) My understanding is that with acquirement scrolls it is best to read them at deeper levels
Are there hard cutoffs, or is it simply the deeper the better
(2) Are artifact creation scrolls better at deeper levels
2 - yes, as far as know (Artifact creation scrolls are exceedingly rare these days)Leave a comment:

If you really want monsters to fight for you, try playing Q. (Hehehe. It's ridiculously difficult.)Leave a comment:

Yes. Magical figurines (but NOT statues) will turn into the monster they represent and become your loyal pet. If you see a figurine of a powerful high-level monster in the black market, it might be worth buying.
Make sure to get a capture ball from the general store too if you plan on making use of powerful allies like this. That way when you leave the dungeon or travel across the overworld you can bring your buddy along in the capture ball instead of abandoning it.Leave a comment:
