[PosChengband] Weaponsmith: what limits on equipment buffing?

I read through the (admittedly quite extensive) in-game documentation, but there was precious little information on limits. How many bonuses can a weaponsmith slap onto a single weapon? How many ESPs? Is it better to buff an Ego weapon or an unnamed one?

You can enchant items up to +20 at CL50, it scales with your level. You can only put a single property on stuff. If the item has a pval already (for example boots of speed +3 is a pval of 3) you are limited by that and can't put on anything higher, but if it has a pval of +7 you could put +7 con on it too. Individual things have different limits, extra attacks caps at 3, life at 5, extra might/shots/dice at 4, stats at 7. It's always better to use an ego item, except if the pval would cause your bonus to be lower than otherwise.

      Thanks.

That single property limit seems thoroughly disappointing. Does that really make up for the lack of skills other classes can use in the long run?

Races and classes in poschengband aren't finely balanced against each other. Many of them are much weaker or finnickier than others, but they add diversity to the game. The weaponsmith seems like one of the "different but not super strong" ones.

          No. Weaponsmiths are truly disappointing.

Strange, I have not gotten one too far but they look very strong on paper.

Can you not enchant slays on things like cloak of the bat or crown of might now? Or go genji + tonberry. And ofc life over 1500 (eventually, with enough +life gear).

Guess I have to make one now and see for myself.

Edit: Actually, this is a good question, can you enchant a cloak of bat and a crown of might, and maybe gloves of the wizard with positive slays (+x/+y)?
