Yet again I find myself starting up a game of Entro. Quickstart? Yes please. Another cookie-cutter Human Warrior in a long line of cookie-cutter Human Warriors. But this one, Combat Doomguy, is different. He is not a "Lucky" personality. He is not a "Munchkin" personality. This is not "easy mode" (although I did feel the need to check --- see below). While exploring the dungeon, I kept being surprised by unusually lucky finds. Within the first 24 dungeon levels, I found:
- A progression of 5 or 6 ego weapons, starting with a Long Sword of Freezing ($$$)
- An ego armor
- A Ring of Free Action
- A dungeon book (Exorcism and Dispelling) ($$$)
- A Potion of New Life ($$$)
- Thalkettoth
- A Wand of Rockets ($$$)
This was where I got suspicious and looked to see if I was somehow in Easy Mode by mistake. These are just unusually good drops by any standard. But no, ordinary difficulty. Then along comes Wormtongue on level 24, and after three rounds of melee he drops:
- Celegorm
- THE GLAIVE OF FREAKING PAIN
This is after one hour of play. I'm saving and exiting right now before the RNG decides it's time to hang me out to dry. Toxic overconfidence is more deadly than any monster...
