    [Un] coated weapons

I'm new to Unangband and have some questions about weapon coatings. Specifically I'm wondering what some of them actually do. Like the stat draining mushrooms. If I have a dart coated with a mushroom of naivety what does it do to monsters? What other mushrooms or potions have unobvious effects when spread on weapons?
One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to bind them.
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness interrupt the movie.

    It drains their WIS; duh.

It also does some damage, regardless if the draining succeeded or not (you get a message about it when hitting a monster).

I guess all effects will become obvious if you identify a mushroom and read the description after "when applied to coat a weapon or arrow". Due to a feature/bug, ID or even frequent use (eating?) of the mushroom is needed to get numerical information about the damage, etc.

Which affects their ability to resist certain magical effects...

I guess it's a feature/bug we need to document. "You will learn more about this item as you use it." is probably not a bad idea.

I concur (though I generally hate learn-by-using, just as train-skill-by-doing and any other kind of get-high-by-repeatedly-hitting-keys).
