Dark Elves do also have nice stealth. I suspect a skeleton would also be a strong choice. Resist Cold/Poison/Shard/Hl/Si, slightly more tough then a human.

Do you get experience when a summoned creature hits/kills something? My summoned spiders are swarming some orcs but I don't see my experience going up at all.Comment

Yes but less. Afaik, you only get the 'kill' experience (maybe not even all of it). You don't get the 'damage' experience.Comment

Okay, that makes sense. And it seems like summons drain your sp each turn they are active if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure how this works though since at one time I had 16 active summons and my sp was only going down 1 per turn.Comment

There's a limit of summons (their levels also count afair) that you can have without mana consequences (check ~7), then you get decreased regeneration and finally the drain.
Atm it only goes down by at most one (ok, so now I'm not certain, but I had a huge number of summons before and that's how it always worked) so you can regenerate your mana via external means and keep a horde up indefinitely.
