Looking for something similar to Zangband

I see a lot of variants, and I love the variety, but I'm having some trouble really getting a feel for the differences. I've downloaded several (including Vanilla), but I haven't enjoyed some of them as much as Zangband, back many years ago.

Does anyone have a recommendation that feels similar, or deals with similar expanded mythos? I don't mind trying out a ton of different ones; just looking at a list isn't really giving me any insight.

As a separate question, does anyone know if there is a comparison matrix of the most popular variants?

Poschengband is basically all the dials labeled 'ridiculous' in Zangband turned up to 11. It has a lot of activity here, also -- I'd say it's the in the top three most active, along with Angband and Sil. I would go with that.

I agree it is one of best .

I still play Z+Angband which is basically a continuation of Zangband.
