    [All variants] Most Out-of-depth monster

What was the most out-of-depth monster you've encountered? Mine was Hoarmurath of Dir (native to dlvl 64) in a GCV in Camelot dlvl 13 in PosChengband 2.0.3. That's 51 DUNGEON LEVELS OUT OF DEPTH!!!!

My best try at PosChengband 7.0.0's nightmare-mode on Angband.live:

If I'm offline I'm probably in the middle of maintaining Gentoo or something-Linux or other.

I came across The Terrasque last week at dlvl53. Only 33 levels OOD, but it IS The Terrasque!

See the attached (sorry tilephobes!) and the next few minutes went something like:

    ...
    ...
    ...
    eek
    ...
    ...
    press <a>
    ...
press <5> (for wand of teleport other)
    ...
    ...
    [finger hovers over <'> key]
    ...
    ...
    [closes eyes]
    ...
    [presses <'> key
    ...
    ...
    ...
    [slowly opens eyes]
    [exhales]

Undead beholder at... 250ft. That was before GVs were pushed down past 1750ft.

In NPP Vecna somewhere around 1500'. Level had CGV.

NPP has monster spell "teleport toward" which teleports monster to you, not the other way around. Vecna was more than twice my speed and could single-blast me to death. It took me some time to teleport close enough to some stairs to actually get there before Vecna gets more than too many turns to me. Very scary 10 or so minutes.

            And why??

(and why does a message on oook have to be 10 chars+?)

If you turn on the "Always generate unusual rooms" option in Zangband-derived variants (including PosChengband), then every room will be a vault, a moated room, a pit, or the like. Which means that at level 1 you could be encountering monsters with a native depth of 2050' without having to pass any out-of-depth checks whatsoever. Of course if those checks did pass then the monster could be from even deeper.

Certainly the most memorable run-in I've had with an out-of-depth monster was running into Cantoras in a checkerboard room around DL 35 (in vanilla 3.4.1). Fortunately I detected him early enough that I was able to back cautiously off the level.

My personal record: clvl 27 dlvl 28 HE ranger: Ungoliath (dlvl 75), came out of Disguised Checkerboard, and promptly breathed darkness.

It's probably a feature of phpBB, since I've seen it on other phpBB-powered forums. Presumably antispam protection, though whether this is spam in the traditional sense, in the sense of low-content so-called "s***posts," or both, I have no idea.
So you ride yourselves over the fields and you make all your animal deals and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.
