    PosCheng quest question

Are there any new quest threads added since Entroband, as I haven't played must Cheng either? Specifically, any notable quests before the Cloning Pits? Thanks!

I looked around a little to try and find this out myself, but I couldn't find anything because I'm rubbish at looking, I suspect. Anyway, I've been playing some PosCheng and having some fun.

The only quest I've added is The Barrow Downs, replacing the rather broken (scummable) Tower quest in Telmora (Sewer->Logrus Master->Vault->Barrow Downs->Killing Fields->etc).

Ah, thanks much! I'll have to check the Barrow quest out, if I can get past the vault.

I remember glancing at posts where the tower could be abused, but I guess I never figured out how. It must've been repeatable and I never caught on.

Exactly. You could leave the quest and it wouldn't register as failed. This meant you could stair climb and pick off monsters with rather low risk. Or wait for a quartz vein to show up and farm infinite gold (I've done over 20,000,000gp in under an hour before). And then shop scum for a few hours ... Ah, good times

IMO, the most notable pre-Cloning Pits quests are the Mimic Treasures quest in Morivant and the Barrow Downs quest in Telmora. In the Mimic Treasures quest, you have a chance of finding excellent equipment-ware. In the Barrow Downs quest, you will get a guaranteed Cloak artifact (different in every game) somewhere in the quest itself...it's found on the level and not dropped by the Wights.

Since I only really play 'zerkers, I do the quests in this order:
            Thieves-OldManWillow-DarkElvesMagicShop-Tengu-Mimic-Sewer-Logrus-10arenafights, for 2 potions-vault-cloningpits.

I was hoping there was a new stop in the chain so I could skip vault or be powerful enough to win vault. I pulled in a cloning pit victory in 40 minutes one time, and all I'm trying to do is beat cloning pits by an hour. It's a fun little quick carnage mini-game. You should try it, I like the Golem Zerker.

I play mostly Monster - Angels, sometimes Monster - Trolls and Archon Rune-Knights. My sequence is: Thieves - Orc Camp - Doom Quest 1 - Tengu Quest - Old Man Willow - Dark Elven Lords - Sewer - Logrus - The Vault - Barrow Downs - then Cloning Pits if prepared. I can do the Telmora Arena early but I stop going depending on the opponent. I stop for a while if Giants, Basilisk, Biclops and etc. are upcoming opponents and I come back later.

If I recall, I had a chance of taking on the Cloning Pits within 30-45 min but I completely ignored Free Action. My encounters were the Queen Ant, Fasolt, Tom, Jurt, It, and some others. Most of these were easily dispatched. But that motherfucking Dracolisk ended the fun.

But that has changed in PosChengband when chris re-balanced and made the game harder!

Who dropped that stick by the way? Only Lazy characters can get this, right?

Wow, that's pretty fast! I don't understand androids. I'd have to invest a little time to understand how to level them up, or gear them up, or whatever. I checked the ladder for zerkers and saw a bunch of androids, tried one out, and was quickly confused. I'll have to do my research!

I remember playing that guy, and I also remember taking forever for the lazy guardians to show up. I think a 2.5 hour win is a realistic possibility!

Androids do no get experience from killing stuff. Instead, they gain experience (renamed construction) from wearing equipment. So, you turn on the (munchkin) option for unusual rooms and stair scum for GCVs (OK, maybe it is *this* that is munchkin ). Tunnel in for some quick early xp. I've had them pop to CL40 in around 5 minutes before. After that, life is easier with 1600hp and whatnot.

Stick, Yumi and Clothes are all lazy characters only, dropped by each of the 3 lazy guardians. They are each ridiculously OP and also designed so that the complete set gives all resists and 3 nice immunities, +7 to all stats, etc. Its a challenge getting a lazy guy powerful enough to kill one of the guardians, since the personality really nerfs the player (but berserkers are still pretty strong).
