    [Un]angband 0.6.2 beta

When trying to load my savegame from wip7e ( started with 7c) I get:

    Code:
Error (cannot parse savefile) reading 0.6.2 savefile. -more-

    Loading a 0.6.2 savefile ...
    Too many (1368) monster races!

Parsing the old .prf file does not work either .. fails with

    Code:
Error 1 in line 128 of file .... Parsing 'Y:show_tips'

edit: savegame and prf directory attached. Had to 7zip the prfs because the zip was bigger than 98kb ...

No, I don't have a clue 'bout C, and I'm not starting my own variant.

Can't be. But in case it is, could you attach the savefile and the pref file? Thanks.

I would guess you didn't wipe your previous version clean. Move it to some other directory; and your preferences directory, too. Then install, run the program so that it creates new directories and files, exit and manually copy the savefile and the pref files to the fresh locations. Then run again.

.. I always unzip the files into their own directory, in this case "H:\_commandline_\unangband-062-win\" , while it was "H:\_commandline_\unangband062wip7ewin\" before ..

I got the "cannot load savegame" after I copied it over without prf files, added (copied) "droskaII.prf", "player.prf" and "startup.prf" to \user\ and got another error ..

Couldn't unzip it. I guess Debian does not have 7zip. Is it even an open format?

        > File Type: zip Droska.zip (41.3 KB, 1 views)
No problems loading this on my Linux SVN Unangband.

        > File Type: zip user.zip (6.7 KB, 1 views)
No problem loading any of these files either.

I don't know. Could anybody on Windows try to load the savefile? Thanks.

Arralen, could you perhaps remove all the contents of lib/raw and try again? Could you change birth_beginner to X in Startup.prf and try again? If all fails beta2 should be out this or the next weekend, could you try then?

Given that the number of monsters has not changed between wip7e and beta, I'd risk the hypothesis that your "H:\_commandline_\unangband-062-win\" was not empty before you installed beta (e.g. there could have been remnants of wip7c, in paricular lib/raw/) or perhaps you are running wip7c through some icon shortcut or something.

But of course this may be any random computer instability, as well.

Turned out it was the latter .. I downloaded the ZIP again (from the 2nd berlios server, this time), unzipped into another directory, dropped the savegame in an everything works fine.

Sadly, I deleted the other folder and ZIP in frustration without running an CRC32 to check vs. the newer files ... so we'll never know what happened

Actually I've recently found and corrected a random memory overwrite bug in the game loading code; was going to tell you about it when beta2 is out; so I'd be really curious to know that CRC32. Anyway, the old rule: if in doubt, reinstall, works as usually for software.
