    Hengband 2.0.0 Released

    So, after quite some time away, I came back and download my fave variants.
    Then, at sourceforge Japan I find this =]

    Translation of the japanese release note:

    "Was up as the official version, the thing had not been open to the public in the treatment of the 1.7.2 development so far. Please wait for a detailed change history is because it is currently being organized."

      Oh wow, so this is finally alive again...publicly? Definitely curious what an English 2.0.0 release will bring after all this time----guessing an English version is coming right?

        That's awesome news! Chengband owes its existence to Hengband and began life from the unofficial 1.7.2 version.

        I don't know what made it in 2.0, but 1.7.2 added a bunch of new stuff including new classes (Sniper and Hex), new monsters (mainly new low level human uniques, but very well done) and some nice display enhancements (e.g. removed hard coded 24 line limit in shop displays).

        But we'll have to wait to hear from the Hengband developers to know for sure.

            wow, that's out of nowhere. I wonder if the heng developers are aware of the changes made in entroband and chengband? Has anyone sent them a copy or a link?

              Changelist for 2.1.2, all in Japanese!

              Latest version is 2.1.2, and I seriously think this can use a translation from JP to EN. Unfortunately, I don't know any Japanese at all. I just feel that Hengband in its latest form should be honored like PosChengband/Chengband/Entroband, and other variants!

                Well, the key thing is that it is still lively---though yeah some translation would be nice given how long it has been since the last release in English. About the only project getting action on that front lately is Elona though.

                  Are the official hengband devs even aware of progress made in entroband / chengband / poschengband? Anyone ever figure out the changes in 2.x?

                    I definitely borrowed some ideas from Hengband 2.0: Armor of Olog-hai, Uruk-hai and Demon. Though the abilities might not be identical in Poscheng.

                      It would be nice to finally get an English translation... I'd love to try and continue with Hengband, but alas it's broken in terms of Mountain Lion and above so I'm stuck using Windows when I can be bothered to fire up the Netbook.

                        The instructions in readme_eng.txt say to compile from the source with Borland (BCC), using makefile.bcc .. and to just uncomment 'ANGBAND_RC = ang_eng.rc' .. to recompile for English.

                        I downloaded the free Borland C++ 5.5, and tried to make, but only got many errors.

                        Fatal: 'artifact.obj' does not exist - don't know how to make it.
                        the result from:
                        make -f c:\Borland\BCC55\Bin\new2\hengband=9bcb54f\src\mak efile.bcc hengband.exe
                        Any ideas?
