    Sangband Shops

I just updated my version of sangband from 0.96 to 1.02 (there are a lot of broken links to sangband & 0.96 was the first version I could actually find). I notice somewhere along the way the starting gold was reduced which I like. Unfortunately the shops often don't start with basic items. With my current character the weapon shop has nothing under 300 gold (double his starting gold). Often the general store only sells enchanted shovels/picks. Does anyone actually use a shovel (+5, +5)?

I know it's not a major issue but it would be nice to have the shops random code tweaked a little to sell more basic equipment early game.

I had to start with a sling and some pebbles for about 1000 turns until the Temple store sold an unexpensive whip and then I was in business, Sang was meant to be hard, but it gets better and I think easier, their are a lot of good weapons in that game, and exceptional weapons that double damage dice.

There should be standard equipment available most games. Did you check for bludgeoning weapons in the temple?

Not sure, was a while ago now. I think I ended up just taking wrestling. Usually it's fine. It's only occasionally that my warriors end up dressed in robes or weaponless.
