    [Un] Questions

Hi, I've been playing the latest version of un for the past couple weeks or so... so far it's been working well, but I have a few questions and comments.

    - Linked Chain Exploit - Opening a linked chain provides 1 XP per open; however, once the chain re-locks it can be opened continuously. I've used this exploit to jump to around Clvl 8 or 9 within minutes (although, admittedly, it takes much longer in game time).

For what it's worth, I don't know what these are supposed to be used for.

    - I cannot gather loose items in the dungeon (i.e., where the descriptive text states that i can gather x terrain for item y. I can grab something if there is an item on top of it, but I don't know how to gather items by themselves.

    - How do you disarm trapped walls?

    - When do characters with Magic Book specialty, but no native spellcasting ability, gain the ability to learn magic? I have a Thief at Clvl 10 with 18 INT, and she has MP, but cannot learn any magic. The spellbook she carries (Cantrips) shows that she can access low-level magics at lvl 7.

    - Is it possible to use a map when not playing in campaign mode? The maps are dropped by enemies and occasionally appear in the Black Market, but I can't seem to use them...

Yep - that sounds like an exploit...

Try throwing them when you're standing on them. In order to do an implementation of gathering, I'd have to hack the pickup command to allow this. It's not hard, but is it worth it?

The disarm command should work. If not, it's a bug.

Which magic book is she specialised in? That's the only one she should be able to cast from... I'm not sure off the top of my head, when she gets casting - this may also be a bug.

You should be able to travel (<) on the surface to the map location and back. If not, it's a bug.

(Seem to spend a fair bit of time talking about bugs in this post...)

Nope. Actually the non-campain mode is not tested enough so there may be also other quirks than unusable objects. Have you tried campaign mode? I'm wondering if keeping both modes is worth all the hacks in the code... Perhaps replace the non-campain mode with just an option to start in Angband wilderness location?

Yup. That was a bug. Fixed in SVN now.

Thanks for the response... I've been playing sporadically, managed to make it to dlvl 24 with a Shadowfae Artisan before I rather stupidly left myself around a group of Spectral Warriors with no ?Teleport.
