I've had this idea for a while now, to create an advanced version of the original angband, but taking it way further.
[Edit: I do not intend to create a new Angband from scratch, instead I´d like to use the current Angband and develop it further]
A few examples of additions/improvements:
The surface village would only be randomized at the start of a new character, and stay that way until that character is dead. The start of another character would produce a new village setup and so on.
New buildings in the village: tavern, jail, guardhouse, alchemyst (where the player may buy customized items)
More birth options, using background points, receiving gifts/geas at player creation etc.
I'd like to see more interaction with the npc's and intelligent monsters of the dungeon, giving the player an aura of either good or evil, depending on the actions taken in the past. Good aura would upset evil creatures and the other way around.
Player is able to hire sidekicks, fighting along the player until either dead or injured up to a certain point before returning to the surface.
Player may encounter other "good" npc's in the dungeon that won't always attack the player, but giving the player the opportunity to "hire" them to fight as a sidekick.
Tasks and smaller quests given to the player in a tavern on the surface etc, providing money, items, experience when completed.
More magical items, adding more spice to the game (single use items such as "Orb of smoke", "Mighty arrow of explosion", "Shuriken of ice" etc)
More evil creature items (of ogre, of orc, of evil wizard, of evil priest etc) but still usable by the player (affecting his aura )
Spells learned would go into a single spellbook, instead of having to carry around 8 of them, finding new spells through either dropped spellbooks or magical scrolls.
And of course, the graphics and UI would get an overhaul, bringing the game into 2011, using PNG tiles.
I'm a game designer and digital artist, but not a skilled programmer, that is why I'm posting this thread here. I would need a skilled programmer or two to work on this free project, I won't be making any money off of it and neither would you, unless we receive donations from kind souls out there.
Does this game sound like a great idea, and are you a skilled programmer wanting to be part of it? Do let me know!
