    Entro riding/balrog/misc questions

    Hello,

    First of all, let me say, that the 'random question' bit of registration is total bull...;/ There is nothing 'random' about it, and the word totally mislead me.

    Now, on to me
    I'm not really a beginner at bands. I played Zangband quite a bit, and now I started playing Entro. Although I miss late Zangbands wilderness, quests, skills, dual wielding, riding, new classes and races all are great additions.

    I played a few characters to ~clvl 20 already, so I got the gist of entros basics.

    My current character is lvl 11 Balrog Cavalry. My riding problems started when my first horse evolved into an unruly horse. Everything would be great, but he also started slowing me down by 3. At first I thought it was because my riding skill was too low, and assumed it would rise, but after a while it didn't go away, and although according to the formula from spoilers, one can get to skilled by hitting lvl5+ monster, the interface makes it difficult to say whether riding skill increases or not, so I captured a first horse I met, and exchanged my steed. This one also evolved into an unruly horse, but this one didn't slow me down. I thought - either the former horse was just slower, or my skill raised. Still, that horse died, and the next one was -1. So my questions are:
    -Is my riding skill raising?
    -Do monsters of the same type(for example unruly horses) differ in terms of speed?
    -How do I tell if a monster I'm riding is capable of evolving?(Since I don't know whether I should try getting exp for current horse/future steeds, or not, and I'd rather not check the code for monster descriptions/stats)

    On to Barlog questions
    They're a great class(although I'm surprised they don't get fire immunity), but I'm having trouble managing my inventory. Thanks to their unique feeding habits, I'm forced to carry around corpses, and since corpses drop rarely and I need 5+ to be safe, I end up with 5(4 if I'm lucky) different corpses, taking up 5 inventory spaces. Although I save 1 space thanks to insane strength(no shovel needed), but thats still 4 down. Not to mention I need a capture ball with me, to capture potential stees. Is there a solution to this problem?

    And one sexy question in the end
    -Does 'Sexy' personality set max whip skill to 8000, or do the class max still apply? If it gives 8000, I might restart my character, since a devilishly sexy, fiery goddess riding a dragon is tempting as hell

    Having read a lot of Entro/Heng dumps, I'm almost certain that monsters vary in speed.
    a chunk of Bronze {These look tastier than they are. !E}
    3 blank Parchments (Vellum) {No french novels please.}

      (This is from experience playing Entroband.)

      IIRC all monsters that you can ride have a (permanent) random adjustment to the monster race base speed. So, if you ride a dragon with +10 base speed, you may end up at, say, +7 speed or +12 speed. The dragon you're riding will always remain at the same speed, unless it can self-haste or becomes hasted by throwing !oSpeed or using a -oHasteMonster on it. (I'm not sure about the range of random variation, though.)

      I don't recall riding skill having any effect on the speed. It does affect how often you get thrown off your mount.

        Thanks for your replies guys,

        The skill does have an impact on the speed. I'm pretty sure of this, because my speed rose from 0 to +1(and I got +1 attack on steed only) while I was riding one of my horses, as my riding skill went up.

        I also figured out, that in one of the towns, there is 'learn full monster info' service and it does have info about evolving, so one can check whether a pet can evolve there.

        I'm still having food problems with my Barlog, and would appreciate some help

        Also, what kinds of detection do people use early on? Because I often get a level feeling suggesting there is something interesting on the level, but can't find it, or meet uniques that tend run away that I cannot find later.

        -edit- I also wanted to add, that pets speed do change when they evolve(not only the base speed, but the random adjustment as well). My awesome young red dragon +2 evolved into a mature red dragon -3 ;/
