    Furyband 5.1

I have been experimenting with Furyband. It reminds me of early pernband days without the crashes. It has a nice new wilderness layout (new to me, this is furyband 5.1) and lots of oddball unbalanced options.

I poked around with it for a day or two, enabled chargable items (I wanted to see them) and tried a dark-elf lost soul jedi. Very cool. I went with light powers for the buffs and use force push as my main offensive AOE. HTH with a lightsaber for most combat (need to level the blades).

I found the halls of waiting part fun, I died about 20 times but the simplicity of not having to deal with spell books paid off and I was able to get enough levels and gear to start the ascent. I am now level 48 (of 75) and still haven't found appreciably better gear than what I found in the halls of waiting. The dump for Melos can be found on the ladder here

So far Furyband is very stable and fun to play. It isn't Ongband with its harder playstyle, it is very much in the style of darkgod's original pernband with lots of elements thrown in and insanity and fun to be had.

I am curious how it will continue to develop as I play. I will go into the void, I have a cloak of air in my portable hole. I do have to be very careful with food. This particular variant has me eating corpses, eating walls, and conserving any portable food since I go through it so quickly. I have a Destruction randart though so coupled with my Eat Rock ability I should be ok in the void with the current socked away kit.

    Anyone else playing Furyband today?

FuryBand was based off of Tome which explains the similarities I've not done much with the wilderness or main quests yet, those are basically what they were in ToME/Theme.

I want to get the objects/monsters/classes (sorta) balanced first before I start changing the wilderness, though I do have some ideas that might find themselves into 5.1...

I've made some changes to the random quests, and I hope to add some more at some point. I'm a big fan of the Diablo type hack and slash rpgs, as well as more serious games like Oblivion, and the original Neverwinter Nights, so that's the general direction I'd like to take it. Tons of quests like Oblivion, and insane combat like diablo and titan quest.

    Anyways, glad you're enjoying it.

Oh, I realize it is based on TOME. I am just saying the feel is like pernband was back in the day, lots of stuff added and changes everywhere. Balance may or may not follow later.

      Things I like:
      * new special levels in various dungeons.
      * jedi
      * food oddly important again (flashback to moria/nethack)
      * new useful lightweight armor - added for jedi I am sure, but fun regardless.
      * lots of interesting and new ego items.
      * playing a class with a force ball, always fun.
      * wraithform is attainable and useful.
      * the extra levels make skills fun to experiment with.
      * adding more FF tags to skills, I have seen some very odd skills in the list.

My dark elf jedi is enjoying the exploration.

I am trying to keep on track and finish Melos. The enemy of my winners has always been distraction with other character ideas.

I always have loved mindcraft as a set of utility abilities. So maxing mindcraft for those abilities is my current goal. It will give me a source of more AC and double poison resist. I also think the DimDoor ability will be useful, as will the ability to refill my mana given enough enemies. I will also dump all the points I can into spirituality to max my save. With a perfect save I can use mindcraft psi abilities with impunity and a perfect save really helps with druj, sanity blasting and other nastiness. I think the perfect save will really help with the void as well.

I am not sure winning the void will be possible due to eternity object issues. It is a choice between mage staff, sword, xbow, or armor I think? I have never finished the void before. Well I will see how it goes. I have a cloak of air socked away in my portable hole. I have been avoiding jedi dodge because of level comparison issues in the void. It just won't work so it isn't worth the points. I have not felt the lack in any way.

I am pretty pleased with the skill point projection for the end so that is one worry off my back. The big thing will be to finish Barad-Dur, do the quests there, and then head to Sacred Land of the Mountains and Lonley Mountain for level gains and equipment scumming. That can get a bit boring but with the right set of gear I will be able to really dive in Angband. I should do moria as well just to see if there are any dungeon towns. I have been good about draining fountains for useful potions. My potion supply has been going up nicely. I need to remember to keep it up. I have been socking away fragile items into my portable hole to protect them. Staves, potions, cloak of air. The portable hole is really sweet.
