The Druids/Rangers in NPP have a spell that gives a weaker (2X) Brands of every element temporarily. It is quite Strong.
In general, if one wants to manage the power of a branding spell that applies to Ego items and artifacts, why not assign upper limits to damage dice or have the spell "conjure up" a specific weapon instead, with certain pre-set (level-dependant?) Bonuses, slays and dice. Like the D&D 3.5 Paladin spell that conjures up a Holy Avenger LongSword or the Bound Weapon/Armour Spells from Oblivion.
