After you give your character a name, at the option of starting over or playing the character if you chose to start over when you pick a new race and class the game jumps right to rolling the char history, bypassing the stat purchasing. It gives an appoximation of the stats the previous character had.

Oki - will write a PKGBUILD for Arch once its released. 0.8.6 compiles fine and seems to run without problems (no ideas about bugs - just made a char and died because of a fire trap at 50").
