    Getting Sangband to work on Windows

    After a bit of research I got the Windows compile of Sangband running on a Mac using Wine, so I figured running it on natively in Windows would be easy...

    But no; when I try to open it (either the bugfix version or the unofficial beta) I just get a blank screen and have to go into the task manager to shut it down.

    Any ideas as to what I need to do to get it running? Do the lib files need to be in a specific location or anything?

    It's not my PC so I don't know the exact specifications, but it's Windows XP, a Core 2 Duo processor and a relatively new machine.

      Looks like Mr Obvious was right; at least when I tried it again today it worked fine.

        Hmm, what might not be so easy for Mr Obvious to explain is that I need to reboot every time before I can get Sangband to start.

          Most *band Windows front-ends (with the notable exceptions of V3.1.0+ and Zaiband) actually wait for the registration of the new fonts to be acknowledged by everything in the operating system.

          While this makes for an excellent probe for hung drivers and programs, it does mean that if even one driver or program is hung then the *band won't launch.

          Rebooting means that the driver/program hasn't had time to hang yet....
          Zaiband: end the "I shouldn't have survived that" experience. V3.0.6 fork on Hg.
          Zaiband 3.0.10 ETA Mar. 7 2011 (Yes, schedule slipped. Latest testing indicates not enough assert() calls to allow release.)
          Z.C++: pre-alpha C/C++ compiler system (usable preprocessor). Also on Hg. Z.C++ 0.0.10 ETA December 31 2011
