    As near as I can tell, space is being used as a trigger to toggle easy_monlist.

    This means that if you load the game and hit space a few times to clear the messages, you will find easy_monlist mysteriously turned on.

    If I bind space to escape as a keymap, then all my monlist problems go away.

      That's correct. You can then hit space again to turn it off.

      I find this pretty intuitive. YMMV.

      The detailled reasoning behind this:

      Space has two functions within Angband. 1) Advance a screen of text. 2) Flip display of a menu on or off.

      If you consider the monster list to be the 'default menu' for when you don't have any other menus displayed, using space to flip the main window monster list on or off makes sense.

      I can add an option for those people who really don't want the monster list to display in the main window ever by using the space bar. Let me know if you display this information in a term window instead...

        I use a term window for visible monsters and items (Which appear to work well together or separate - I tested), so I'll have to leave it to others to comment. Additionally, the term window only updates when there is a change in visible monsters; Finding, picking up, or dropping an object doesn't currently trigger a redraw.

        Other notes:

        - "]" screen capture command kills the field of view effects until the game is restarted.

        - As a suggestion, I have always preferred compressed messages, like "The floor is thick with dust. (4x)" to lines of repeated text. Some other variant I played did this, can't remember which.

        - Thank you very very much for auto-ID of {normal} objects. Kudos.

        - I suppose it's already known; my confusion-coated weapon is confusing me when I hit instead of the target. Correction, it confuses my target, but when I have no target, myself.

        - Just wondering: will UnAngband ever implement the ability to zap wands at self? Some wands would become useful.

        - Is there some other way than trial-and-error to find out what the min/max depths of the dungeons are?

          Need to file these as bugs / feature requests, but Berlios is ignoring me at the moment.

          It turns out everyone who requested this over the many years of Angband was right...

          Actually hadn't noticed that. Fixed it now.

          Just killed myself with a wand of lightning beams to verify that you can.

          Other than listed on the menu when you choose which dungeon to travel to?

              Looks so much better now, that I can actually move around again

              O.c., only to find some more oddities, but nothing serious up to now... :

              --------------------------------------------------
              "You have no room for 9 Scrolls titled "denla ionsun".
              *Reads*
              You are blind.
              You see 8 Scrolls of Darkness.
              --------------------------------------------------
              On the next step, the char began to feel things, though ...

              Not all harmless(?) town inhabitants are safe from the player:
              * blubbering idiot
              * errand girl
              * hobit goodwife
              † hobbit merchant
              † bumbling priest
              ... or is it because I'm a Haradrim Thief ?

              A "chest with explosive trap" went off when I was 2 steps away:
              The message didn't say "chest", though:
              <quote> ♦ " explodes!</quote>
              It did burn a horn below the @ but didn't do any damage otherwise and spilled the scrolls it contained - shouldn't those burn up as well, instead?
              Code:
              &..           ´??
              ...       =>  ???
              ..@           ..@

              Instant-PseudoID didn't kick in for 2 items:
              - a dart fired by a trap (another one from another trap on another level did ID, though); it ID fine in the magic shop, though: Dart (1d3) (+0,+0)
              - a "set of Bagpipes" I found on the floor on Weathertop 24; wasn't offered for IDing in the magic shop, but I was able to sell it at the general store, where it stayed a "set of Bagpipes" - must have been plain item, but getting no hint is irritating.

              Resistances broken (again)?
              Zapped a Rod of Lightning at a Bronze dragon bat: "The Giant Bronze dragon bat is immune to lightning. The G.B.d.b. flees in terror!" ... and it looks like it lost 2 stars from the 1st, 1 star from the 2nd "beam attack" ...

              Coated thrown weapons broken (again)!
              *Throws disease-coated dart at cobra*
              You miss the Imperial cobra.
              You are afflicted with fumblefinger caused by minor ailments.
              You have no more Darts (1d3) (+1,+1) <Disease-coated> (q).
              You reorganize your quiver.

              Potion of Cure Disease didn't !
              Potion of Cure Minor Disease didn't, either ...

              No, I don't have a clue 'bout C, and I'm not starting my own variant.

                  Aha. I was doing it wrong. I suppose I expected a wand of haste monster to do something when zapped at myself, but I'm ok with it.

                  I continually forget after travelling there and diving in. What would you think of having the dungeon level in the bottom right corner say something like "the cellars of Maggot's farm 3/6" or something?

                    You can use the knowledge menu (~ command) it's useful for a lot more than just telling what dungeon you are in.

                      Somebody asked I power up rods - you can always damage monsters which are immune to their element - they are just highly resistant... (1/9).
