Autoscum is already gone in SVN. Having played both with it and without it, I think that the pacing is better with autoscum off (it's easier to get overconfident).
I'd be more comfortable with removing the autoroller if points-based were meant to be an effective replacement. Points-based is clearly *not* an effective replacement, and evidently never was meant to be: in exchange for guaranteeing that all stats are at least mediocre, it explicitly prohibits getting three 17 base stats (the autoroller can do this). They are intended to support different styles of character generation. (In contrast, removing classical character generation could make sense, *if* the autoroller were extended to include social class).
I'd also be interested in seeing what a "unified" gold allocation would be like playwise (using the same rules for calculating gold in normal stat rolling as points-based), but that would almost certainly involve pulling social status into points-based generation.
