Black Breath in Oangband

Hello,
New member here, and I love the website!

I have a pretty basic question. My character seems to be suffering from "The Black Breath" which basically is sucking my Experience Points dry. I have tried a basic Remove Curse, but that doesnt work. What do I need to do in order to get rid of this apparent curse.

You need to eat a sprig of athelas (or a Potion of Life perhaps...?)
