I noticed that when I hit level 36 with my Half Elf Mage that the next level was over 20M experience... Is that a cruel joke? Will the next one be 40M, so I should just quit now??? Not sure if I ever made it this far with a HE Mage, so not sure why this game is supposed to be "quick", it ramped up immediately at level 36.

You are expected to win before CL30, IIRC. -
So, has anyone ever done it? That seems absolutely impossible and now i question if I really want to play it any longer. I love the fact I don't have crawl through everything so slowly and there is a good bit of "flavor" to everything. There is a reason they call "regular" Angband "vanilla", but it's the only one I ever won, and it took forever.
Are we sure it isn't a function of being a half-elf? I love choosing that too because it accelerates finding artifacts and uniques as well.Comment

I'd forgotten. Last I played, the penalties were for HE only. (The draw of the Gray Havens begins to affect them, or something.) There are a number of 2.0.6 winners, but all of different races. They are around CL35 and ~500000exp.Comment
