    Come over to Mangband

Tons of knowledgeable people here, would seem like cool people to play with! If you guys haven't tried out the Multiplayer version of Angband, go to www.mangband.org and come check it out!

If anyone gets this working for Mac OS X, please let me know! I tried this a year or two ago and rather enjoyed it. It would be neat to try again!

Seems interesting but you don't even get a few seconds to think about your equipment before it times out

Mangband is an excellent variant and I have spent a lot of enjoyable hours playing it. Unfortunately, it tends to be rather time consuming and I am usually too tired these days to play it cautiously enough not to get killed.

Yes I tried that OS X version Andrew, but got a "image not found" error when I try to run it. I didn't have time to take a very close look at it yet though. I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong later this week when I have more time. It does say that the mac builds are still experimental so I didn't try too hard at getting it to work yet.

in general, if there's no OSX version, the generic *NIX version will work. Just build with makefile.STD, and run the X11 option. Note that this requires installing x11, which is another package on the dev disk.

It can't possibly be real time (can it?)!!! I'm assuming this means that you get a few seconds to make a move (unless you happen to be the only player on a particular dungeon level????), and if you don't then the game proceeds without you. Is this correct?

if only. You get 1s to make a move, independent of other players. The result is esrly death, at least for me..

This may be apocryphal but apparently there was a russian guy playing this over a 2400 baud connection who won the game.

Names and details may be incorrect.

I tried it. It seemed like a pretty fun game.

I rapidly realised, however, that I was never going to be very good at it. It takes a certain sort of person to play real-time games with permadeath.

This sounds much more like pain and frustration than fun. I couldn't even play that quickly at low CL's, yet alone when you start facing competent enemies.

Hey why don't you give it a try, it might be more fun than you think.
