    Way to skip messages?

Is there a way to skip messages?

I know there's a UI option to not pause for messages, but I'm looking for something like hitting ESC when you get the MORE prompt, rather than having to space bar through them.

Since I run with the other windows, I can look at all the messages all at once, but I don't want to turn it off all the time because its way to easy to miss stuff in complicated fights.

But if it's just me and the 9-headed hydra, yea, "skip the rest" would be really handy.

    yes there is:
    "options" (=) > "user interface" (a) > "clear - more- prompts" (r)

uh .. after re-reading your post, i guess this isn't what you want.
Do you want a single command to clear ALL the more prompts, when pressed?

Yea. I want it situationally, not globally.

Some fights, just aren't a real threat and you just need to work through them. Others, you're gingerly stepping through.

I've tried the global option, and it's just too easy to get lazy and get murdered.

So, a command to clear "the rest" of the more prompts I think would be nice.

Awhile ago I made a keymap to toggle more prompts. The trick is to remember to toggle them back on with the same keymap after your situation is done.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

          Yea. Sounds...dangerous.

Even selectively skipping can be dangerous enough (simply habitually skipping), but, perhaps, less dangerous.

I think messages are a part of the game that could use some UI improvement. Some variants have color-coded ones, and I would love see them in Vanilla, too. Sometimes useful stuff gets lost among all those "you hit the orc -- no, wait, this time you *smite* it" lines.

Yea, I would certainly like to see some color coding of the messages -- mostly in the message list, vs the ones across the top of the screen.

I appreciate the legacy of the original interface, but I'm grateful of the multi window interface that comes out by default with the Mac version I use, with the main pain surrounded by a message window, monster info window, visible monster window and items window. (I think that's it).

So, by coloring the messages in the message list, they certainly stand out better (at least to me).

I would like to see colored messages for items destroyed, and while the color of the player changes (I play using ASCII), I think the hit that sends you to red would be interesting to see highlighted (notably because much of the time, it's a singular big hit that does it).
