I detected Mim in a room, asleep, and not in line of sight of the door. I positioned myself down a corridor so he was 16N 2E of me and I targetted the spot 16N of me so he'd be splashed by the edge of my (radius 3) orb of draining. I expected that to wake him and lure him into LoS and I waited a few turns for him but he never appeared. Re-detected and he was still in the same spot - he hadn't moved. I was able to keep casting and splashing him with the edge of the orb until his HP got low enough to kick in 'flee' behaviour, at which point he started behaving normally - ran off into a corner, recovered his courage and then came back to hunt me properly.
Maybe related, maybe not - but I've seen some other surprising fails-to-chase behaviour where a monster will chase me down a straight corridor but entirely fail to come around the corner. Creeping coins seem like a persistent offender, but there have been other cases where a monster was awake, and fairly close to me, and although the path seemed clear didn't hunt.
