    Dumb question - restoring stats

Got attacked a bunch by new monster 'p' type (assassin of some kind?) that drained strength down to 3

Got the hell out of there, and WoR to town, speed is -9, 10k TNL...

Am just getting back into the game and can't remember best way to fix, looking for advice. Should I:
    • Scum the stores, hoping for potion of strength/mushroom of vigor
    • Tediously clear out weaker levels until gain a level
    • Something else (please tell me)

    Level-up will restore your stats.
Besides mushrooms of vigor and potions of strength/brawn, there is also a new something to eat, that restores strength and constitution (can't remember the name).
Also, rods of restoration and potions of life will do the trick, but those are rare and deep.

Yeah, I'm going with this option (on lower than deepest reached) to try and help me.

      Thanks

Oooh cool, new item since last time I played!

Really loving 4.2.0 changes. Thanks to everyone involved.

That is nothing compared to Ebt's draught (which is very rare.) It is a counterpart to *Enlightenment*, increasing both str and con.

the correct answer is "ALWAYS wear a Ring of Strength".

I know, the damage's already done, but dropping STR is much worse than any other stat debuff. Not only it lowers your blows, attack chance, and damage, but it also affects your speed. DEX does not, it just lowers your attack chance and blows, well it affects your AC but to an unnoticeable extent.

So wear a ring of strength. (makes digging easier too!)

I would modify the abobve "ALWAYS wear a Ring of Strength" - don't do it if you are not a melee class (maybe i missed the info somewhere but i think we don't know what class the OP plays).
If you are a caster, just avoid monsters which drain stats with their hits (of course first you need to learn who does that).
Btw i had such a problem earlier when nexus stat-swap was permanent and I can tell it was one of my most memorable games when I was running around with 2 rings of escaping and used devices for killing monsters. Sometimes it's good if you are forced to use new ways of playing

eh, a caster can probably profit from 2x ring of INT, but a lot of the time (i play with selling enabled) i find myself carrying 1x INT and 1x STR, just so i can carry stuff. OR, 1x INT and 1x Escaping.

priests dont have rings of WIS.

all the other "caster classes" are also melee classes - ranger, rogue, paladin.

Only if you have selling turned on, IMO. Most of the time I get more benefit from something else in that ring slot. For example, right now my blackguard is getting more use from a ring of Cold than he would a ring of Strength.

With mages i usually go with 2 mouse rings unless some nice int ring comes up early. I don't mind -1 speed until stat gain depth, those +2 or 3 stealth points per slot have more value for me.
But these choices also depend on playing style, i prefer keeping monsters at range (not only with mages).
