ideal depth for artifact lights?

broadly speaking, if you were trying to scum for randart lights, what depth would you say is ideal ?

I currently have a CL45 randart ranger who has a arti Dragon Armor, every ring of power and jewel in my set, but i have yet to run into a single artifact light, and it's really bugging me. And believe me, i tried.
I do not have any light source on ignore.

Im currently on DL92 maxdepth.

deeper is usually better, but you might look at the randart file to see what lights are available. My recommendation is just to finish the game with a lantern of seeing or brightness.

One issue is that max depth is usually quite small for randart lights.
Looking at my current game, they are at 40, 47 and 62 although this obviously varies from game to game.
I'd think about L40 would be best.

Why do artifacts have max depths anyway? It's not like they clog up the drop pools; a given artifact can only be found once, after all. Minimum depth, sure, finding Ringil at 50' should be rare, but max depth doesn't make sense to me. I mean, especially for utility artifacts like light sources, but in general I won't be fussed if I find Elvagil or Narthanc as a drop from some deep unique.

Agreed, tho if the base item is impossible, yhe artifact eon't show up either.

Speaking of endgame lamps... NPP has an endgame quality ego lantern that I have wished for in V more than once: ~ of Telepathy. It should be very deep (say 80) and rare. But it'd be a nice alternative to Narya.
