      Most likely killing townspeople for cash and waiting for stores to restock. It might also be scumming for speed potions.

      That said, I also occasionally see what looks like an issue with recall -- the borg decides it wants to go to the dungeon, casts WoR in town, rests for a while, decides it wants to go to the dungeon, casts WoR (cancelling the first one), rests for a while, ...

        Sometimes it finds something especially interesting on the Black Market and farms townies until it can buy it. One of my mages found Tenser's spellbook in the black market when he was around clvl 20 and farmed for it. When he spawns the entire map of townies and wipes them out, each iteration gives a couple thousand gold.

          I've been running a borg since 8/22 non stop, and they've all seemed to suffer from a problem with Cloaks. Specifically, they'll get their first cloak, it will be disenchanted to a Cloak[1,-1], and they won't exchange it for anything else. If I manually remove it and destroy it, the immediately run home and grab some artifact cloak in it's stead. I've also seen this behaviour in boots. They'll find boots that pseudo as {good} and destroy them rather than ID and wear them instead of boots [6,-6].

          8 and 3 are REALLY close on my keyboard today.

            The borg seems to accumulate a pile of multiple rings of sustain charisma. Is that proper behaviour?

            EDIT: And mine has a problem with keeping on disenchanted gear too. Currently a -1 cloak, -2 set of gauntlets and -6 pair of metal shod boots.

              For me, The borg never attacks uniques, even Farmer maggot.
              When in a room alone with a floating eye and nothing to throw/shoot, he bounces from next to it to one space away, only rarely attacking.
              Another annoying but breakable loop, standing on a store and pushing 5 HUNDREDS of times. he seems to be able to sell things, but never buys anything. a few times he managed to buy the very first item in the store, preventing him from starving completely. I wish I could turn the old store interface back on, mainly because I could quickly sell my hoard of collected weapons with n repeatedly. :P

                one other thing

                I often find the Borg has stopped playing, normally it is in the middle of clearing a jelly pit and its an amnesiac, seems this causes it to forget to play any more?

                  Problems posted here on page 4 have been addressed. I thought the unhook with amnesia was the most serious and jumped on it right away.

                  There is some code (and it has been in place for probably 4 years) to remove gear that does not add power (protection) to the borg. Cloaks (-1) would fall into this catagory. The code was written specifically with this scenario in mind. I will test out the stuff to see why that function is not behaving properly.

                  He will attack Maggot after he reaches clevel 5.

                  Bouncing on that Floating Eye is a problem. I think it is corrected. If you catch him doing it, send me the savefile.

                    In the mean time, is it safe to manually destroy net-0 equipment? Does the borg re-analyze itself when you do stuff and then reZZ it?(It's seemed to work for me, but I am just curious). So far, I've got 190 losers, here's some info from my closest winner:

                      software bug?

                      Anyone have any idea why the borg occasionally crashes with the message "software bug" ? I've looked through the source code and can only find the message in signals.c, is the borg creating this crash?

                        I just lost a 47 mage because I went into a jelly pit and run up next to a Death Mold and decided the ochre jelly and the grey mold were more important to teleport away and the death mold had 3 rounds to hit me.

                          I've seen the Borg die trying to mel&#233;e death molds too. Why it doesn't just ignore jelly pits, and TA death molds I don't know.

                            Most likely the borg is creating the crash. It is new to 309b. The crashes are related to a monster being very close to the edge of the screen (say grid 35,1) and the borg looks at the 8 grids around the monster. He will try to call grid y,0 and then crash. I have added several in_bounds checks to avoid the crashes. Check the latest version since I was able to catch and correct 4 or 5. As my borg crashes with these, I fix them. I run my borg in VS2008 in debug mode so I can catch every crash.

                                I'm up to 610 entries in borg.dat (no winners). I have seen a lot of deaths due to the [1,-1] bug where the borg has {special} cloaks in home but won't replace a Cloak [1,-1] with it. I've seen it on many different armors. Statistically, 125 of the 610 entries died with such an armor in their posession (not necessarily wielded, though I doubt the borg would have left one in it's home).

                                How I found that number:

                                The bug only strikes items that are Net-0 with no other benefits. Boots of stability [2,-2] would be enchanted back to +something or replaced if something better comes along.
