It's tough. That green skin really clashes with the red. I'd suggest a trip to the Macy's makeup department to help you out.

More seriously: starting kobold rogue is fragile, but has high stealth. So the usual rules apply:
Carry a way to do damage at a distance (a stack of !oil, even.
Carry at least one buff to let you take on worthwhile opponents.
        Carry ?PD and !CLW

Plan on diving: you won't be able to clear levels, but you will get monster detection fairly early. Go down, avoid groups of orcs. Kill Bullroarer, wolves,, Brodda, first group of hounds you meet. These are HIGH--EXP low risk targets. Don't mess around with tougher targets til you find a good weapon or bow.

        Edit:
I can't emphasize this enough: stealth + detection make for a powerful combination, but they have to be used right: avoid areas where there are alert dangerous monsters. Spend all your mana in the early game on detection, of monsters and objects. Use devices and scrolls for everything else. You aren't looking for battles; you are hunting, for good objects and for high value targets, and you won't find them at shallow depth . Avoid almost everything else. Kobold (or High Elf) rogue is probably the classical diving combination.

Hence the comment about the red clashing with the green.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

                +1 what Pete said:

Do not farm monsters, farm levels.
                Have something to shoot
Too late now, but roll with high enough DEX to have 2 hit/turn
                Prioritize Stealth.
                Dive!
P.S: Monsters awake from time to time, so, more time you spend on the level, more chances that an angry guy will start chasing you.
That is one more reason to change levels quickly

I stop avoiding orc groups with rogue if I find a rod/wand/staff of light/illumination, they're damaged by light. Doesn't work with hill orcs though.

                    @Frenchminstaer--
It's like any other group: avoid them if fighting will exhaust your resources. Otherwise, you can run them over like a speed bump (say, if you have a *thanc weapon.)
