I think showing relative speed is the right thing to do.

+1 from me, if the computer calculates hero / monster speed then the player does not have to

This is up on github now. My character has +6 speed and this is what a +10 speed dark elf shows:

A dark elven figure, dressed all in black, hurling spells at you.
This evil creature is normally found at depths of 500 feet (level 10), and
moves at 2.0x normal speed, which is 1.3x faster than you.
