      And really? You can't understand using your imagination? Everything has to be laid out for you in pretty pictures? I don't know what generation you're from, but it's doomed.
      It is the brilliant writing in Angband that captured my imagination and has me coming back again and again. It's the great writing that makes the ASCII view better than tilesets, nevermind the functional superiority that ASCII may provide over tilesets.

        I too started with Moria back in the 80's so it just feels wrong to play with graphic tiles

          In fact, it's Ancalagon that has all dragon uniques as escort. Glaurung is generated alone.

            Ooooh... so it was dragon escorts to another dragon. I thought it way odd that they all showed up together, and so close to one another too.

            I agree with most of the comments above about ASCII, especially the very clear, concise identification of a monster on sight. It also helps that things don't get hidden in colored clutter. In ASCII mode, only mobs and items have color, and the rest of the dungeon is black/white. It's stark and simple, and gives me quick info without sorting through visuals.
