    Rings of teleport and escape

Another pet peeve about the 3.1.0 development branch: because rings of teleportation and escape have built-in speed bonuses, they're worth rather insane amounts of money when they're not cursed. It's a little weird for an item selling for upwards of 25K to be more or less regularly available at 500' or less. Forget weird, it's downright unbalancing for any char to have reliable access to that much cash so early in the game.

I have nothing against the speed bonuses in these rings -- in fact, they make perfect conceptual sense within my understanding of what these rings are supposed to accomplish. I just think that there ought not to be such an automatic linkage between speed bonus and resale value.

Thanks for the report. I've not had much Angband time of late, but hopefully this weekend I'll have enough time to polish off some of the bugs and release a 3.1 beta.

I've "fixed" this for now by making rings of teleport and escaping worth 0 gold, and thus rendering them unsaleable. I'm not entirely sure it's the best approach, but anything else would require an extensive rework of item valuing.

I'd be intereted in hearing feedback on whether the speed bonuses unbalance things at all, too-- I've not had much time to play the development version since the items rework. (Actually, any comments on balance are appreciated.)

I don't think the speed bonus would be worth random teleportation, but if you're a mage or ranger playing without melee, rings of escaping with even minimal speed bonuses may be highly unbalancing when they first start showing up.

Rings of Escaping will prevent all attacks, I think, so I hope this isn't a problem. It should truly be a ring of escaping.

Do non-offensive spells count as attack?

Or what about stone-to-mud? It's typically an "escapeful" action, but certain monsters are vulnerable to it (AFAIK).
