Hm, I don't know that I'd call Paladin boring, but it is a class that doesn't have any glaring weaknesses, which means that there's nothing substantial that you have to overcome aside from the dungeon itself. Like, warriors have no spells, rogues have poor spellcasting, mages are made out of paper, rangers can't do anything well except archery, priests need an offense until Orb comes along...and paladins just have poor stealth and a min 5% failure rate. Otherwise there's not really any question of if you're going to have trouble with building a winnable character, between the good melee and the frankly rather overpowered holy spell list.

Yeah, any class with high HP, good melee, and a healing spell is going to be kind of boring. Heal300 is such a boss spell, you had better have some weakness to make up for it. Paladins don't, really. Otherwise, it plays like a somewhat weaker warrior: yes, Paladin may get detection earlier than a warrior. And detect evil/bless/cure are nice, but not game changing. But other than unlimited healing, Paladin spells are nothing special, and a warrior can pretty much keep up with magic devices. (That said, Half-Troll Warrior is a different matter.)

paladin is super super boring until you get to the high levels, then it's boring but you get to spam Heal.

Ohh i see, so people say is "boring" because it's a way too easy class with very few penalties... Well yeah that's a good point, they might be way OP... But not indestructible, i once had a lvl 37 Dunadan Paladin and that guy was awesome! I had good gear like the beaked axe of Hurin and the bastard sword of eowyn and i was kinda deep into the dungeon when i got melted by Arien the sun maia xd maybe because in the whole game i never had any gear that gave me extra speed other than potions... But other than that i loved when i used to fight Ancient dragons hand to hand xD

Anyway... Thanks! Now i'm playing with a human rogue (i like races that are good in melee) it looks very interesting this combination.

they are boring because they defend rather than attack. you don't get any high damage spells, almost everything you cast has a very high mana cost, you don't have speed, your useful spells are spread out between 7 books, you need to carry recall, TO, Slow, arrows, etc. and essentially you are a melee class.

i *just* made it to CL40 and finally i can get rid of some staves .. which means i will have more than just 1 inventory slot empty, finally.

The only class I find boring is priest.

Hmmm. I just lost a CL30 Paladin to an AMHD, with a single poison breath (after failing a Portal spell to get away.) And I just. Didn't. Care. The class has the same problem as Ranger: weaker early (especially with the disastrous stealth) and too strong late. Having to deal with Every. Single. Monster being awake gets old *fast*. And there are only a couple early spells that are even worth spit: Portal, Mapping, SI, temporary resist fire & cold. I'd rather play Ranger. It's not a bad class for newbies, who are leery about slow diving. In fact, my very first winner was a Dwarf Paladin with a MoD (Holy Avenger). But now, it's by far my least favorite class.

I've won with every class except rogue and ranger. I just can't seem to power through, I get so bored. I'll keep at it.

You shouldn't expect to power through as a rogue. You're more likely to sneak through. About ranger, I agree. It's not a well balanced class. But you can try Half-Troll to get better melee and HP.

My latest paladin was high-elf and got to legendary stealth. It felt wrong, but was fun. I was lucky with stealth-items, obviously.

In a way, paladin and ranger are at opposite ends - few weaknesses versus many weaknesses offset by one major strongpoint.

I prefer playing paladins over rangers, personally. Ranger archery is very effective, but I feel reluctant to use it because of the hassle it comes with.

Agreed. I haven't played a ranger in a very long time because of this. And unless I get an epic launcher, I totally ignore archery in all the other classes. It's both overpowered and tedious. I'm happy to do without.

I do equip my stat sticks, however.

i now have the highest CL priest i've ever played, at CL27. Orb of Draining is pretty cool when it only costs 7 mana instead of 15. it's mana damage, right? the same as magic missile? because it kills multi-hued dragons.
