So I've been killing a bunch of Kobold rogue characters (almost always because I try to take on a vault too hard for me) in a row today. I started with an awesomely lucky character that found everything early (artifact dagger on dlev 1, etc., that kind of luck), tons of artifact armor. You know the type of game: everything goes your way and you think "I got this!" then you do something stupid and die. Well then it was followed by the other kind of character: finds *nothing*, barely a "good" weapon at all, no damage output capacity at all, etc. Then while on my 4th or 5th try, I come across a sling of power and finally I can do some decent damage. Then while plowing through some popcorn on my way to some detected objects, I step on a ring a solder dropped and I get this huge long line, saying: "Ring of adamant, Nenya"!!! Holy crap, I can go many games without ever finding a single ring of power, not to mention finding it this early (dlev 10). Now the pressure's on!
Unexpected drop!

That must be extremely rare.
Be careful, the RNG is playing with you.👍 1 -
... Am I the only one who looked at the thread title and thought it was about poll numbers, before remembering that this is an Angband board?
Anyway, cool find. Elven rings are awesome in V.
(Now just try to avoid getting overconfident. :P )Comment

Sos of *Slay Evil* IS an endgame weapon. What it isn't is something to mow down lots of monsters to scum for loot. I got that in current game for killing Sauron:
Mace of Disruption (5d8) (+14,+26) <+1>
... Sustains your life force
Slays everything 498 per turn; 518 fully buffed.
Yeah it's not "endgame". But it was a *perfect* melee weapon for a mage. I managed to melee Titans, no problem.Comment

The SoS *SE* is still sort of "meh" because it has a relatively low +dam. I don't seem to have any configuration that goes above 450 average for anything in melee, and I'm playing a rogue clev 47. If I wear every conceivable strength and +todam I have I end up with a lot of critical holes, like loosing pConf. A downside to the ring of power is that I've come to depend on it for so many things, that my second ring must be a speed ring instead of a =Damage, which limits my damage outputComment
