Which subwindows do you use?

The ones I use a lot are messages items and monsters. The colored rows in items, and the organization of monsters make them indespensible. One possible change: Allow monsters to be organized by max damage they can do in a player turn, corrected by resistances. -
I usually have
Inventory
Monsters
Items
recall
Messages
and the two I actually use are Monsters and Items.
I play on a laptop, sometimes with an external monitor and sometimes not, so I tend to have the windows configured for the 13" screen because I'm too lazy to reconfigure every time or figure out how to save different configs. This means I usually don't have the inventory window big enough to see all slots if I want Monster or Item windows large enough.Leave a comment:

counterclockwise from bottom right:
messages
monster/object recall
monster list
item list
inven/equip
I don't find the map overview interesting enough to keep it on screen all the time but occasionally use the M command to display it on my main screen.Leave a comment:

I use SDL with all windows tiled (with different font sizes) to occupy the full screenLeave a comment:

I used to use them years ago, but then I realized that I could get a better effect by just dedicating more space to the main window. If we had a minimap that was not locked to ASCII then it could conceivably be more useful.Leave a comment:

I remember trying one of the map views and finding it to be annoying and useless or something like that, and turning it straight back off. I think I'd be open to a better version in the future.Only one player reported usage of Angband's terrible minimap ("Display overhead view"). No one seems to use the other kind of minimap ("Display map view"). Is that because of the flaws in current implementation, or are minimaps just not that useful when playing Angband? I thinks the former is more likely! But we we'll see...Leave a comment:

Interesting results so far!
Inven/equip and recall subwindows are surprisingly popular.

Shockingly, at least one person does use "Display player (basic)" and "Display player (extra)". Some people just have too many monitors, I guess!
Apparently, players don't use "Display player (compact)". No wonder - it's the same thing as the sidebar! Likewise, "Display status" is not used much - probably because it never displays anything at all?
All in all, good food for thought here!Leave a comment:

I don't. It's just quicker to glance across then use the look command if I want to check something.Leave a comment:

3) monster list
4) item list
5) monster/object recall
I have 2 monitors, so I put the game on one, then information screens on the other. If I want to know something I don't have to remember which button to press, it's just there.Leave a comment:

For me:
In PosChengband - I use none
In Sil - I use inventory + equipment + monster description + maybe a few others (I don't remember right now since it had been ages since the last time I played Sil)Leave a comment:
