Spring clean time: what to keep and what to ditch?

My gnome mage is doing quite well by my standards, and I'm thinking about preparations for the grudge match with Morgy. I want to give my inventory and home a spring clean, but I don't know what I can safely throw out.

    Character is here: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=18722

I think I'll probably stick with Thorin, as I need the CON boost. I like the sustains on the robe, but I feel that I might be better off with something else as I've been wearing it for a long time. I suspect a lot of the artifacts at home are just clutter, but which ones?

Things I would get rid of:

    - amulet of regen: unless you want to minimize turncount, regeneration isnt important at this stage.

    - Arvedui, Rohirrim: those 2 never get used again once Caspanion and Isildur are available.

Also, I dump curing rods once I have poison resistance; if it is important enough to get rid of a status effect, I probably want to do it with guaranteed success and use a !ccw.

As for armor, it is your only source of rbase; you can consider Isildur, trading pconf for sustains, but it doesnt matter much.

The next thing I would try to achieve would be to get +20 base speed without losing anything essential; possibly, speed boots + Caspanion if another source for rbase becomes available; or swap out Barahir, that one is not usually an ideal piece of gear.
I dont know how much you are meleeing at this stage; if little, a defender weapon is a serious contender that would open up options, or Barukkeled + Dalithalion, if you keep 18/200 int that way it would buy you conf resistance at the cost of melee damage.

I would use the same setup you have, unless I missed something.

Thanks. That's useful information, and lets me free up a bit of space.

I've got most of the base resists covered by other things, but I've only got the robe covering elec and nether. Isildur would give me rConf but I'd lose rNether and the sustains.

I'll see if I can get the speed up to 20 without losing anything vital. The obvious armour is thalkettoth, but that is pretty rubbish apart from the speed bonus.

I only use melee for low-level stuff that's not a threat, or to finish off things I've already softened up, so a defender weapon might be an option.

I've found ringil now, which makes the choice a bit easier. I can't imagine that I'll use any weapon other than ringil (other than as a swap perhaps), or any shield other than thorin.

Speed and regen are sorted thanks to ringil. Might be my first winner ever if the RNG doesn't let me down.

3 sets of gloves is too many. Either carry Eol as a swap for IM_FIRE (very useful to have, situationally) or get rid of it. Make up your mind between Cammithrim and Agility.
I'd also stop carrying MB 2. There is no spell in there that a level 48 mage should need. You can even stop carrying MB 1. You can (should!) use Rift instead of ?Phase, and the MB 3 spell in 4.x detects both visible and invisible monsters. Use Galadriel for the few times you actually need illumination (i.e. a powerful golem or a Quylthug in the room.)

Good point about the gloves. I'll probably stick with Cammithrim and keep Eol as a swap when i need fire immunity.

I think I'm about ready for the big dive now, as I'm at the stage where my equipment probably won't get hugely better and I just need to ensure I've got enough consumables for the big fights.

If you want to try some further insanity after (or as a break from) your current character, I'll note that today's poschengband is a descendant of zangband, which your sig mentions you have played.

I have fond memories of Zangband: I played it a few times around 2002, when it had the fixed quests (orc camp, sewer quest, haunted house etc). It was a popular variant at that time: I remember lots of posts in r.g.r.a with subjects prefixed with [Z]. Later it dropped the fixed quests and added in a lot of wilderness stuff which I wasn't so keen on.

I managed to win with this character: he fought Morgy in a corridor next to a vault, so he couldn't tunnel through the permanent wall and manastormed him to death quaffing the occasional potion of restore mana, potion of healing, and casting phase door when he got next to me. If anything it seemed a bit too easy because Morgy's movement is completely predictable.
