I'm a warrior and I enchanted a heavy xbow to +9,+9. I just found a light crossbow of power which is something ike +6, +19. Which of these is better? I'm not quite clear on the formula for ranged weapons. Thanks!
Which crossbow is better?

As far as I remember it's as simple as...
((Damage Multiplier * Projectile Damage) + Projectile ToDam-Modifier + Launcher ToDam-Modifier)
Damage Multiplier is that "3x"-thing.
Crossbow: 3x
Heavy Crossbow: 4x
Bolts: 1d5
So...
Heavy Crossbow (non-enchanted bolts)
((4 * 1d5) + 0 + 9) = 4d5 + 9
Between 13 and 29.
Light Crossbow (non-enchanted bolts, again)
((3 * 1d5) + 0 + 16 = 3d5 + 16
Between 19 and 31.
Meaning the light crossbow's damage a bit higher. Additionally, the light crossbow is (as the name says) lighter. It has a lower ToHit-Modifier, though.
I think that's it, but I may be completely wrong. If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are. -

Accorfing to these spoilers the multipliers are last after all dam is added up, which is why bows can be very over powered.
this gives you an avg of 48 by hvy and 57 by light

The heavy crossbow does have a range advantage over the light crossbow.
edit: and, obviously, the heavy crossbow is heavier than the light crossbow. The range thing is sometimes overlooked as an advantage, though it is rarely an issue in game since there are not many places where you can both see an opponent at max range and have a straight shot to nail him with the heavy crossbow. Also, if I'm not mistaken, %tohit goes down with range.Last edited by Slick; April 21, 2008, 16:35.Comment
