    Time spent playing

    Hello,

I really enjoy that I spend a lot less playing time (real world time) building up a character than back in the old days.

A couple of weeks ago I took a Half-Troll warrior to lvl 50/4950´ in about 12 hours of playing time. For fun I took a human warrior today to lvl 30/2150´ in less than two hours. I was helped a bit by finding pseudo-dragon scale mail of resistance at 50´ (9 feeling), which is the best item I´ve found at 50´ ever.

Sometimes things goes a bit too fast. A few weeks ago I managed to sell my only artifact item, and my only piece of armor, Hithlomir, at the black market, with no chance of buying it back. Morgoth knows how I managed to press that stupid key combination. So I had to go for the best armor they had in the stores, which was a Robe +2! A lot of weaker characters would commit suicide by less, but I kept on. Was rewarded by finding Balance Dragon Scale Mail shortly after.

How long do you other guys spend playing a winning character?

I never win. But I grind too much when I play. I play hours and hours to get to 1500'. Sometimes I can get to 1500' in a couple hours or less. I don't usually survive passed there much longer, though. I've never found anything super good at 50' except once, recently. I think I may found a potion of dexterity once at 100'. The first time I played 4.01 (recently) I found a {splendid} or maybe an artifact dagger. I died very soon after, tho, at 100'.

UPDATE! So I was half paying attention, not reading the messages and not paying attention to my health "yeah, yeah, more orcs, and more orange 'c's" I get hit with something, but just assume it's an orc arrow, I then notice the messages stop flying by and read something about a kavlax and "you die". I had 159 health when that message appeared. Soo... I give my self a pass since I was distracted by a group text message about family xmas plans and force quit the ol' angband. Shortly thereafter I pick up a battle-axe of Lothorang. Now this game I'm picking up so many artifact weapons I am no longer getting excited about picking up weapons, but this is the first time I've gotten an artifact battle axe (I'm not sure I've ever even picked up a {splendid} before, usually battle axes don't come in high rating. Well, this one is actually decent; wait a minute, its special ability recharges every 4-7 turns? Wait a minute, a rod of healing charges after 1000 turns. Wait a minute, this heals 40 hit points every 4-7 seconds? That's... not too shabby, in addition to removing blindness and confusion and rDisenchant. 1000/5 = 200. 200X40 = 8,000. That's slightly better than the 500 health a rod of healing provides. Just when I was telling myself "I may never come across WoR I shortly thereafter picked up 4 words of recalls. This was 1500' and level 2-4 level feeling.

Last year I streamed and recorded a vanilla Angband competition entry, took about 26 hours for the entire game but I was definitely flagging near the end because I did it all in a single sitting :P

About 20 hours. I try things and test different combos and pause sometimes for quite a while to figure out what's around me. I could probably play faster, but I don't like to push it.
