    Short questions and answers

Didn't find such a thread - and didn't find anything with search, I fear As in every forum, the search-function doesn't really help... so I start:

I found a cursed item. How to uncurse it? I read, that curses are no longer in the game, but hey, the boots are cursed for sure What can I do?

Try to enchant it. For a pair of boots or other armor you need a 'scroll of enchant armor', for weapons the enchant weapon version. This scroll will also try to improve the AC value of the boots but even if that fails the curse should be lifted.

Enchant them. Even if enchant fails there is a chance that curse breaks. Might require multiple tries.

There are two items in the game that are permanently cursed. After you have ID them you notice that from the text "permanently cursed"

          Tow more questions, fellow adventurers!

          1. Are artifacts always mentioned, before I pick them up? In other words: Do I have to pick up every weapon to find them all?

          2. If a spell attack ist "150 cold" and written green - how much damage may I take? I understand how "breath" attacks work, but what about spells?

          Thanks a lot!

You have to pick up an artifact to know that it's an artifact. Or you can identify it while it's lying on the ground.

I think the damage listed in the monster memory is the max damage done by that spell, but damage can vary. As a hypothetical example, a monster's cold ball attack might be 5d10+100 damage, but it would only say 150 in the monster memory. Different spells have different formulae though. I'm pretty sure that Mana Storm does (monster level * 4) + 10d10 damage, for example.

Thanks a lot! But is there a way to identify it while lying on the ground? If I spell "identify", I have to choose from my inventory.

You can select the floor with "-". Read all the options offered after casting/activating identify.

                Edit: typo

                      Really? testing.... not in 3.5.1.

[EDIT] but do in 4.0.1. Great enchantment of the game.

                        I'll use this thread....

If an artifact is generated but you don't pick it up, will it show up in the artifact knowledge screen?

I don't think it will, unless you have identified it, at which point it can no longer be generated again.

Thanks. Sorry for the late response; was busy last week.

By ID, I had always thought it was by a spell of ID, but then I read even if you pick it up and get it's name (but not ID for full knowledge)?

Negative. If you pick up an artifact then it is considered "Found" and can no longer be generated. However, if, for example you see a "Phial" in a vault, but can't get to it and leave the level, the Phial of Galadriel can still be generated.
